oh Free, you're so OUR generation!!!

give a look on google - search on 'how to be emo'.... you'll find sites that tell the teens the right "music you should listen, clothes you should wear, attitude..Read the ultimate guide on How to Be Emo." you know, so you can be an INDIVIDUAL. hee hee hee as long as you follow the rules. and right bad poetry about how you are being oppressed.

as far as i can see its today's answer to teen angst. you know the kids in mall all standing around in skinny jeans, big belts, hair in their eyes (mostly dyed black), and the one i dont get - the boys wearing the girls pants....well thats them. mostly they are filled with the pain of being oppressed by their parents.

the hands down best line of teen drama (after her cd's were taken away b/c she missed curfew)...and this was shrieked in a crying fit, no less:

"you CANT take away my music!! my music is my OXYGEN"

and then she threw herself sobbing into my arms. it took all my effort not to fall to the ground laughing.....

You sound like me!

Some friends of mine and I wanted to see the sunset from the top of a small mountian...none of us thought to bring a flashlight. That was a fun hike down!

I didn't bring a sick pony home until I was an adult, but every mangy dog or cat came home with me. :p

Emo kids have too much time on their hands! :gig I have my daughter working outside as soon as she gets home from school. :gig More work if she starts acting "off". :p

The Bad News:

again with the snow. need i say more? for heavens sakes. this has got to end at some point.

The Good News:
we finally got our property into the county ag program - not only are we a 'real' farm now.. but we get the big property tax discount!!!! yay!!! granted this wont help until next year ......but i'm so relieved.

and we had a funny time when we went to the auditor's office. we walked into 'something' ....a buncha guilty looks and surprise...and it turned out to be a snowball fight IN the office by all the employees! we laughed a lot about our 'tax dollars at work' - and then laughed even more when we found out that we were approved so quickly. it just might have been that we saw all the shenanigans - but we'll take it!

the other good news is that now the tax thing has been taken care of i can move on to some other to-do's on my list. so while i'm still stuck in the house b/c of the snow... i'll be working on some other things.

happy thursday everyone!!

Laughing at the emo thing.....I am glad that none of my kids fell into that silliness.

Although there was LRB (Lip Ring Boy) he wasn't really emo but about as close as we came. Why are normal girls drawn towards weird boys? He wasn't too weird, vegan, dressed funny (thrift store 70's ish) and was in a band  but he was a nice boy....just looked like a rebel.

Congrats on the tax status! I have wondered exactly what it takes to get the farm break....can you give me the thumbnail? I know Ohio will be different from Cali, but I am curious.

Keep your chin up girl.....Spring is coming....I can smell it!!!

hee hee hee well in your gal's defense... in high school The Big Man had long-ish hair, an ear ring, and drove a 1967 souped up mustang with a big engine, a blower, and oh yes.... flames painted on the side. we were really something back then. but at least he always looked like a boy.

anyway

in ohio the tax thing, especially in our county which is really ag-friendly, is kinda easy. our big thing was that we had to wait for 3 years to apply. the stupid previous owners never had the property put into the ag program and if they had, the status would have been transferred to us.

if you have less than 10 acres you have to show that you have a certain amount of income from ag activities (i think its like $2500/year). if you have more than 10 acres (we have 15) then you just have to demonstrate that the property is being used for ag purposes.

for instance, we had to show that we had permanent pasture (not for horses but 'real' livestock - dont throw anything at me! i didnt make up these rules!) for stock. we can also use the permanent beds of daylilies - plants for profit are considered ag activities.

we narrowly missed having to do a 'timber plan' because a lot of our property is still in trees/woodland. the trees are too young to harvest, but there are management practices they require so it counts as forestry acres...which attached to farm land get you into the ag discount.

and i dont think it hurt that we walked into the office looking all farm. i was dragging in straw and chicken poop off my boots and The Big Man looked like he was the centerfold for Redneck Guys Gone Wild.

Congratulations on your new ag status.

How much snow are you predicted to get? They are predicting 1-3 inches during the day today and then 4-6 inches overnight for us. They didn't really say what the snow count would be for Friday during the day. But they are saying we will get snow through Saturday. I need to get my chores done and then just rest up for snow removal duty.

Ahhh Emo...

Well seeing as I'm 21 and was in highschool when all those lovely emo and screamo bands such as Hawthorne Heights, Fall Out Boy, Taking Back Sunday (I actually saw them live lol), Atreyu (saw them live too), Alexisonfire (CANADIAN WOOT), Silverstein, etc. came out I have quite a bit to say about emo LOL. I personally love skinny jeans because they're great to ride in, I don't however really have the body for then ;) but who cares, they look good with my cowboy boots lol.

I was one of those weird kids, like genuinely weird. My "group" of friends hung out in the music hallway which was a seperate hallway down the arts wing at my school, it had no lockers in it and was only access to an art room and the music pit. Most of my friends listened (and still do) to heavy metal, Metallica, and well except for Aaron who listens to Demon Hunter and if you have kids who are into Metal and you are Christians you may know about them.. they're a Christian metal band. I did have quite a few friends who hung around with us who were "emo", probably all the girls I hung with were "emo" and listened to emo music. I did like TBS and saw them because I liked them, but Atreyu, who I hate with a fiery passion, I saw with Aaron when I was dating him and I bought him the tickets for his 16th birthday lol. My brother wears thin fit/skinny fit jeans, he's very tall and slim and wears a very slim fitting jean but omg there are so many guys who should steer VERY VERY VERY CLEAR of skinny jeans. STAY AWAY FROM THEM GUYS, STAY FAR AWAY. When I was in school I was a tomboy (still am) and so one of our biggest and most fun games was to make fun of the emo boys in their girly pants and try to figure out which ones were actual dudes at the mall LOL.

I'm too cool for emo, lol, Everyone called me indie for some reason. I listenened and still do listen to mostly stuff like...

Neutral Milk Hotel, The Elected, The Decemberists, The Magnetic Fields, The Mountain Goats, The Kooks, M.I.A., The Metros, Kid British, Alex Day, Sublime, Stone Temple Pilots, Rem, Kings of Leon, Daft Punk, Hole, Courtney Love, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Bush, The Kinks, The Clash, The Doors, John Mayer, Kanye West, Regina Spektor, Kate Nash, Lily Allen, The Remus Lupins, Spill Canvas, The Streets, LIGHTS, The Maccabees, MGMT, Wiley, CAKE, Jenn Grant, Sex Pistols, The Beatles, Bad Religion, Counting Crows, Offspring, Scouting for Girls, The Ettes, Little Joy, Jens Lekman

The boy I was super into in highschool was a boy named Kemp (very nifty indie type name lol), tall, curly hair, glasses, very skinny.. into the same music as me, hilarious, witty. We still talk and we're still good friends. I have to say, geeky dudes rock. But that might be because I was raised by a geeky dude (my dad) lol.

I wear leopard print glasses, what can I say? I know.. I'm too cool to be oppressed by my parents

oh oh oh and emo is not at all goth.

nope not at all, no we're stuck with both "genres"

emo is like goth light, its all about being in touch with your emotions, and crying about everything, and writing bad poetry, and the biggest fad with it is convincing your parents you are depressed and getting yourself on anti-depressants.

I was on anti-depressants, but as it happens I was misdiagnosed and I actually have bad panic attacks and anxiety problems lol.

I used to get in trouble for playing in the barn barefooted....does that count? I have to admit that I was probably the typical emotional teenager but my mom was (and still is) a domineering, controlling pain in the arse, just ask my husband

I wish I could have lived on a farm full time, I think I would have loved it. When my son was asked if he liked the new property he said "mommy, can I have a field of frogs???" with this dreamy look in his eyes....and of course I said, "yes baby, you can have all the frogs you want...."

My DD on the other hand wants a horse.....does a goat come close enough?

Our county administration office loves seeing us come in all rednecked out....this county must have a list of permits as long as your arm for us to fill out.....I don't care, I get to live on a farm!!! Ain't this lifestyle GREAT!!!

thanks K!

we are about in the same boat. at this point we might as well just give up and go and lay in the snow and cry until june. we are having the snow watch thru saturday also.

no goat babies today - but our pregger gal didnt eat much feed. so who knows! yikes!

Lupin - how funny! i'm just an old fuddy-duddy... i mean i totally understand gals wearing a guys shirt (and most of the time i like guys jeans) but a guy wearing obviously girls clothes??? i dunno... that one kinda throws me. i'm hoping my niece will just grow out of it without any extreme piercing and/or tattoos.

as for me, i'm the biggest geek ever and totally uncool. ah but its served me well so i dont mind
