this is NOT A DIET, this is a lifestyle change.
:thumbsup

Dear diet gurus,
yesterday I got serious again and ate mostly veggies, protein, and fats. Tiny bit of sugar in my coffee and the Asian dressing I fixed up, (Do they make a sugar free sambal?), and very low carbs. I was hungry ALL day long. I didn't feel bad, just hungry. What gives? Do I probably need more fat?
Definitely need more fat. You should not feel hungry.

:) Don't know who the diet comment was for ( edit - I figured it out, slow on the uptake this morning), but FWIW when I say diet, I always mean "the way I eat everyday" not "a temporary fix to lose weight" Now, sometimes I have to revamp said daily eating pattern because I have been lazy, but I don't see that as "going on a diet" in the worldy sense. :p LOL, did I use enough "quotes"

More fat. OK. That's going to have to be my gauge.
LOL, I'm probably overcompensating right now - I mixed up a ranch type dip for my veggies that includes sour cream, whole milk yogurt and mashed cooked egg yolks. And I had a load of cheese on a few tortilla chips and green chili salsa. Hope this works because I feel like I could eat all day and it's only 10 am :p Where's the bacon
I have a craving for crab rangoon too :drool

So I guess that would be my next question. If you have a pile of greens, say 2 cups with bell peppers, tomato, mushrooms, and carrots, beets all tossed over the top(not a ton just enough).. How many servings it that?

Thanks for the watermelon info dace. I will read it in depth this afternoon.

Java, I agree on the word diet... It has two meanings and my comment about this is not a diet, meant short term :) we all get derailed here and there, just life!

I find that I eat most early in the day. Later in the day I seem to slow down and maybe you are the same. If you are hungry eat! I agree with Wifey, more fat & protein is probably what you need.

As for the question about veggies being a carb, yes they are all carbs, but they are lower GI that means so you can eat loads of them! I am on my phone and low on power.... Will be back shortly, when I get home!

Gina- 1 serving: greens 1 cup/ chopped veg 1/2 cup , 1/2 avo

Yep, tortilla chips are high carb. I only had 6 which according to the package was about 7 grams of carbs. When I say a few, I mean a few :D
That would probably be the one carb I wouldn't give up. I CAN eat less though and it's all good.

So if I can just jump back to the veggie/carb question....

One issue that I have with calling this lifestyle Low Carb and talking about avoiding carbs is that veggies are carbs and carbs are important. What I don't want is to give the impression that you should be counting carbs.....it is enough to think about with filling the bulk of your diet with low GL foods.

Now there are some people like Wifezilla and Abifae who need to really limit all carbs, but that is not the case for *most* who are looking to lose weight. Now if you follow the suggestions that we have given here and you are just not losing weight after several weeks then perhaps it is time to look at your intake of good carbs.

So it is important to be clear there are good carbs and bad carbs.

Veggies, beans & dairy provide good carbs. They are nutritionally dense foods :thumbsup The bulk of your intake should still be low GL.

Bad carbs would be anything processed/refined (chips, crackers, coffee creamer, sweetened yogurt, treats) and grains (wheat, rice, etc) which offer little nutritional value. Grains are a good carb when eaten infrequently....for weight loss they should not be a large part of any meal.

I hope that makes sense, I just do not want to vilify carbs across the board because they are necessary!

And if you must have your tortilla chips....top them with some black beans, cheddar, avo, and salsa.....that will help slow down the carb induced sugar spike....and adds some good nutrition!

Dace, you just reminded me - I have avocado in the fridge! That is one of my most favorite fats. I crave it sometimes :drool

Thanks for the clarification of the good/bad carbs. All I could think of was someone saying to keep carbs under 60 to lose weight and I couldn't remember whether that was everything - veggies and miscellaneous, or just the miscellaneous. OY, I am having a bad brain day. :he

So I'm hungry again...off to find that avocado...
