Sorry to hear you did not get your corn that's a bummer. At least you had a vacation.

It really does feel like fall is coming in strong.

I am not terribly upset that we did not get corn..disappointed though. We did get a LOT of beans this year for the first time ever and we do have some corn left in the freezer from last year so I will just be stretching the rest of the corn by eating green beans with more of our meals this year. We like to put garlic in with our beans and they really are SUPER DELICIOUS!!

I have before but I like to have them as warmed spiced apples vs using them in pie filling because my kids are not big pie eaters. I can't remember what recipe I use last year though. I am sure I probably just looked something up on the internet...if Pickyourown.org has a pie filling recipe then I probably used theirs.

We had swiss steak over homemade mashed potatoes with home canned green beans so we popped open a can of the spiced apples and warmed them up and they were SO GOOOODDD with dinner last night! It felt like we were having dessert with dinner! YUM!! :drool

I had to take my mom out to get a BIG fire pit thing today in Middlefield and we went by a scratch and dent store that I had stopped at once before and today I got:
20 boxes of Hamburger Helper .25 each
40 boxes of Rice A roni .10 each!! I spent $9 all together! My mom was sort of in a rush for time because she had to get back home to leave for work so I did not get a chance to really scour the store but I was able to grab those boxes and go!
Which store - is it in Middlefield? thx

Kurtz on Shedd Road. I think there is some others there but we have not gone to them all. DH and I went to a couple other of the scratch and dent stores and I did not find them to be as good as Kurtz. But there is one on the Anderson bus tour schedule that I have not been to yet. I don't know the name of it.

Stopped in on Saturday. Cheap stuff, yes, but some of it had expiration dates of Feb 2011. I suppose if you open something and use it all quickly, it wouldn't be that bad. (?) Didn't buy anything, though, I'm sure the selection is more timing and luck as to what's available. Chuckled to see they are charging what I do for eggs. :)

Bags of "parboiled" rice for 5 cents a pound. That one I'm not sure of.

Thanks again.

I have lost 8 pounds in two days!! YAY!! :)
Being sick as a dog!! BOO!! :(

I have had terrible diarrhea! On the other hand I do have a clean colon now! I will probably put some or most of the weight back on again as soon as I am able to start eating again.

I sipped down a couple glasses of baking soda in water earlier and it really does seem to be helping...or I am finally just getting over this stomach bug. Baby girl had it first but thankfully she did not get it anywhere near as bad as I did.
