My 7 BJGs are doing great!! We ended up opening the other eggs and only one was a yolk....the rest were dead. I think I killed them because I opened the 'bator lid to soon to take out the first chicks to hatch. Next time I will NOT open the 'bator until they are all done hatching!! I thought I did a really good job of keeping the humidity up but I can not think of any other reason why that many died. I will not kill the batch in now....I will not kill the batch in now....I will not!!! LOL!!!

aww bummer! the good thing is this time you did have some that lived!!
My broody kicked all of her eggs out but one. We thought she was sitting on none, then I went out and checked again just to be sure, and she had another one she was setting on. (she kicked them out cause they were bad eggs, they didn't develop)

Could it be that there was just too many days between the eggs? I've never used an incubator, how long can you keep hatched chicks in them? I would think once their systems started working (day 2 or 3?) that you'd have a contamination problem. :hu

I set all of the eggs on the same day. I just pulled the first couple to hatch out after a couple of hours rather than waiting for all of the eggs to hatch. I should have waited one or two days to open the incubator instead.

:celebrate We got our taxes done tonight!!! We should be able to pay off our credit card AND pay off our HELOC!!! I am not going to use it to pay medical bills though because they do not charge interest and we can be put on a payment plan. I about :hit when I heard how much we were getting back and realized we should be able to pay both of those bills!!!!!!
No blowing the money on fun stuff but it will take a LOT of the pressure off of our monthly budget and that is worth more than blowing it on something!

I totally understand where you're coming from. We got back more on our taxes then we thought we would and we used the entire thing to pay off a huge chunk of debt! We were soo excited!!

Again congrats!!

I wanted to share the link to this thread with you because you like to make stuff, but also because I thought you might be interested in what this BYC'er makes for her boys. I thought it was such a cool idea, and I am going to try to make some for my boys. Some stuff I made is right above the post with the t shirts too :D
