I had a squirrel monkey when I was a teenager in FL. Only thing it was mean to was boyfriends. It had a sweet personality. I used to take it for rides on my motorcycle. It would curl up around my neck under my hair like shawl and hang on! Poor thing had to listen to Black Sabbath and the Guess Who way too much!!!!

Glad you goaties are taken care of and warming up to you a little!

I had been wondering about that magic mesh thing and am glad to know it is worth it. Hope your leg heals fast!!!!

PROGRESS...
not alot, but just whet out to feed and managed to get Poppy to take about 4oz! she was more chewing the nipple than suckling it, BUT its better than shes done so far! WOOT
then after locking them in there she was bleeting again lol. she doesnt realy trust me enough to realy WANT me around her close, but she trusts me enough to want me within eye shot as a back up.

going to do some reasearch into electric fence options, i cant run power out to the pen so that leves me solar and DC...i thought id feel ok with a 4ft fence lol...but turns out im a worry wart lol and im realy thinking id love a little extra back up on the outside of the fence
electric is just so expensive though. im probably going to pick up some extra 1x2's and extend the door for the shelter up to the roofline instead, least untill i can afford a couple lines of electric, i worry about them probbaly more than i realy need to but i think i'd just feel safe if the door whent all the way up to the roof so nothings gonna be climbing over it.

this is prompted by hearing something rustling in the bushes when i whent out to feed, it was only 1 animal and sounded too big to be a coyote but still.
it was enough to prompt me to worry some so building up the door is on the list for tomorrow, not entirely sure how yet...

Pinky, this is the charger I have. I got it on sale, plus I had a 20% off coupon. http://www.harborfreight.com/solar-fencer-47454.html I think the people who have given it a poor review don't know how to use one. Other than it running down because of the weather, or having it short out when people go thru my field, I've had no problems w/it.

good to know Deb, solar would be perfect for where the goat pen is located, but ive seen such bad reveiws that i was worried...the pen is only 16x13 i i cant see myself over exherting a small solar system which i thin is where some people go wrong, they expect it to be able to do ALL an AC unit can do in terms of ditstance and power and thats just silly. i just want to run a line around the top and mabe a 2nd line 6" from the bottom to make sure nothigns going to be climbing or digging into that small pen.
once i get my barn built i plan on trying to get electricity out to it (shoudlnt be hard the shed and the other old barn on the property both had power hookups at one point) at which point i can run an AC charger unit from the barn arond the goat pastures, but untill then ive no interest in turnning 300ft of extension cord across the patio into the back feild lol.

oh and good news...well 2 good news...

1: poppy actually semi took her bottle this morning...shes still not grasping the real tounge lock suckling that Lilly has so im thinking a pritchard nipple might be a better choice...BUT after i managed to corner her and get her settled in next to me she actually nommed 5oz of milk! WOOT, theres hope for this girl yet. lilly took what poppy left so nothings going to waste aorund here lol. but im thinking a longer more goat natural nipple might help the process even more.

AND

2: Pink Fox farm has its first "home grown" babies.
bluebell delivered 6 fat and wiggly little babbits at some point in the early hours of this morning, man she whent to town on the fur after dark (nothing in there when i checked before bed) 3 wigglers had managed to get themselves out of the nest but i think it was a case of was feeding and momma heard me comming so jumped out of the nest taking these 3 with her, so i warmed them up and put them back in when they felt the same temp as the other babies, they were wiggly and active, but ill keep a check on them through the day to make sure they didnt get chilled (bteing there not on wire and theres a good 2" layer of shavings in the whole hidey house its not like there directly esposed to cold on the belly so i think it helps give some extra leeway in terms of helping keep babies from chilling if dragged out of the nest...but we'll see.
didnt do a color count yet but its a nice combination of some nice marked brokens and some "solids" (probably otters) there probably all going to be black/black otter carrying for dilute given the gentics but rabbits can suprise you.

not gonna fuss with them much today, bluebell is active alert but doesnt seem too spazzy when i checked, but still dont want to obsess or stress her into giving up by constantly checking on them.
Will try and get some pictures a little later though :) at first i thought there were only the 3, but when i dug in the nest (making sure no stills) there were 3 more burried good and deep in a thick bed of fur hay and straw. she did a good job :)

so yeah, good morning and its only a little after 9am lol.

todays plan involves powertools, got to get the gate for the goat shack secured up a little better :)
im hoping i have enough scrap peices that i can make a topper wihtout having to spend any more money, but we'll see, figure ill use what i have first, then hit lowes if i dnt have enough after that. youd think being surrounded by a dumping ground id have plenty but unfortunatly most of the wood is so badly rotten and infested with rot and termites...

on that note talking to the goat guy yesterday while traumatizing my babies...
he said te same as ive been thinking for the piles of shingles...Bury them. says pull out any metal obviously, then go along with a big magnet and get whatever nails i can (aparently thes can also do well for scrap metal?) make sure i remove any old barbed wire/broken fence (rust/sharp) and any large chunks of glass...then just Burry whats left... he shingles will take a long while to rot down but they eventually will and all the privets growing up through the piles, once the goats clear out the visible still whats left will continue to "support" them from the inside so they wont slide or simply collaps.
least i dont feel quite so crazy for my idea or "burry them!" lol.

but yeah.
got stuff to do both in and outside today, right now im having a meach and mango smoothie for breakfast and chilling...then its "off to work"

thanks guys, after the initial breeding not taking, then loosing acorn...i was sooo worried about this one.
hoping this entire litter stays strong and healthy, and i also have Rowan Due on April 4th :D *fingers crossed*

ive decided my next project in terms of critters is guinnea, theres sooo many bugs! lol.

managed to get the gate for the goat house reinforced using reclaimed materials (yay no cost beyond screws and the power used to drive them in :D)
there were some...what only could be described as pickets like for a picket fence laying around in the fally down shed...there odd because they were pinned together in pairs and are pointed n both ends so im sure they were probably actually some kind of sheving or hanging system or something, but they were the perfect height not only to block the gaps in the pallet but extend up beyond the pallet to the roof line making a nice little Upper fence going all the way to the top but still lets light in. WOOT. so lilly can now no longer just let herself out in the morning (like she did this morning when i removed 1 board so i could move the pallet lol) and i dont think anything short of a weasel or cat is getting in there something house cat sized could easily slip between the top pickets if it could get up there, but i figure somehting house cat sized isnt all that much risk to the babies, im more worried about coyotes.

so yeya ofr productiveness...
i will say...its HOT out there in the sun, (inside the goaty hose is definatly much cooler than outside in the sun so im happy to report that kool-seal goop paint stuff realy does work not only for keeping it dry but keeping that sun from turnign it into a little oven.

Ive decided the goat shack will eventually be the buck house it works realy nicely for what it is so yeah thats the plan once i get things moving.

Now...sitting, relaxing and having a cold drink, then itll be off to town for the co-op to pick up a couple of pritchard nipples to see if that helps Poppy and her bottle troubles. (i think now she just cant get her tounge around the short human type nipple. im sure with practice shed get it...but i also dont want her getting discouraged now shes actually taking some milk :) )
then a little later ive got some hosta that i missed popping up in the flower bed that i want to carefully remove and move to a different part of the bed. the hosta is REALY comming up ferociously so i think its quite happy about the dividing i did in February., still need some more plants for the flower bed, but i think its going to look beautiful once done :) want some astibile, some ferns, mabe some foxglove and some day lilly.

Woot for spring...even if it is going to be a hot one lol.

well today has been nutzo.
fixed the gate, had lunch headed out, got to the co-op just before they were closing, No Python dust and no nipples...will be getting python dust probably next thursday...not sure on the nipples...
other farm store is closed, on vacation untill 3/25
So off all the way up to tractor supply.
got what i needed and got home
fed the babies...new nipple may be a winnder, she didnt take much milk for lunch but she was MUCH more interested in it.
Dusted them with the python dust (was the reccomended product for the lice AND ticks, have to re-dust in 14 days and then should be good for a year aparently.
then did some seed planting form my stash, some plant transplanting in the front and general futzing around
and then bothered bluebell a little bit to get a baby count and pictures.

we still have 6 healthy looking WARM wigglers, 4 very nicely marked brokens and 2 self (possibly otter)
Bluebell is a good momma :)
