Your strawberries sound like mine last year. We just got enough to eat a few here and there.

But, this year they are producing really well.

Just you wait till next year. ;)
You give me hope....Thank you. Now do you have any blueberry hope for me. LOL

I know the first years are slow but I am an instant gratification person.
My DH is always laughing at me for one reason or another. But every year he laughs because when I start my seeds I have to run out and buy something that is already started or blooming or it will drive me crazy.

I've had mixed results with blueberries. We have 4 (they must dwarf because they haven't grown at all in 5 years) in our fenced in area for the dogs. Bad, because my dog eats all the ripe ones before I can get to them.

This year, we planted 5 bushes of two different varieties (can't remember names) in another area. They are doing really well and have lots of blueberries on them.

My dad does the blackberries. He has the tame variety. Three years ago we made about 100 pints of blackberry jelly. :p Last year, he lost most of them due to a hard late freeze. This year, they are just beginning to grow well. We may get a gallon from them.

I lost all but a handful (blackberries) last year as well. This year they look like it will be much better.

My strawberries are a little pitiful this year.

Yep, you read it right - he got bit by a squirrel.

First, some background:
Last fall, a friend of my dads had a squirrel nest blown out of a tree by a storm. Their dog killed one and my dad took the other to raise. A baby squirrel opens their eyes at about two weeks old, and this one opened them four days after he got it. He kept it through the winter until it would be old enough to make it on its own.

We have had several pet squirrels before, so this was nothing new to my dad. This squirrel and my dad's doxie would actually play together.

Fast forward - Saturday, he hung the cage in a tree and left the door open. Yesterday, DH was in my Aunt's yard when a rather calm squirrel approached them. It and one of the neighborhood dogs actually touched noses until the dog realized it was a squirrel. This evening, DH sees a squirrel in the middle of our road. Again, it approached him calmly, then scampered up a tree. Thinking it may be dad's squirrel he gets close enough for it to jump on him and it bit him.

Now that we get a closer look at it, we don't think it's dads. We do have it in the cage to keep for observation. DH is going to call his Dr. in the morning.

We googled "rabid squirrel". (Don't do it. You won't believe what came up first. :ep OK, since you're probably now going to, don't do it where kids can see.) It said that squirrels rarely get rabies due to thier habits. But, it also said to get rabies shots if any type of wild animal bites you.

So, now DH may be getting shots. :sick

These are the lap quilts that I have been working on. They are finally finished. :weee

The black/lavendar and the sunflower each have a matching pillow made from the leftover scraps.

The floral has its own matching oversize tote.

They are sooooo pretty! I love the sunflower one! I love that rail fence block, goes together so quick and easy and looks fabulous when you're done. We did a lot of those for the nursing home patients and they loved them. Love the tote too!

I couldn't resist looking up rabid squirrel. :ep Wow, that's all I'll say. Some people are just too creative.

Your quilts look lovely. That is the one thing that I don't know how to do at all, quilting.

DH went to his Dr. and got a tetnus shot and some antibiotics. He told him it might be a good idea to call our local vet. to see if any rabies cases have been reported. None have in the last six months except for a raccoon that tested negative.

Personally, his Dr. hasn't given the rabies vaccine in the past ten years.

We are keeping the squirrel in the cage until Friday, just in case. Daddy said he seemed just fine.
