Oh, sorry about the freezer. But maybe a new one will be more energy efficient so it will be worth it in the long run?
I also have a non-gardening hubby who loves hot peppers. He will tend those plants (when the slugs haven't eaten them to the ground) but still won't take care of anything else. I'm hoping to make some killer salsa with farmers' market produce and convince him to help me grow salsa ingredients next year!

That freezer is about 21 years old. It's an upright. I'm thinking about laying it on its back on a short, raised table of some sort and putting it in the big greenhouse. I think it will make a great place for spinach, lettuce, etc. in the colder months. Of course, I'll have to drill some drainage holes in it, too.
That sounds like a great idea! :thumbsup

Maybe you could use the compressor for another use as well.

Isn't it though? Mine is scrubbing the kitchen while I play in here because I spent all afternoon grilling spare ribs and cooking for us and my parents. Apparently I did well. He is cleaning and my father actually thanked me. While DH is usually more than willing to help clean up, thank yous from Dad are rare!

Reading about ya'lls "hard to convert" hubby's makes me even more thankful for mine. Sat. night, DH and I spent about 3 hours seperating grapes from the vines. I didn't want to start the juice at 10 pm, so we left the grapes till Sunday.

But, before started the grapes, I salvaged the tomatoes from the freezer. I ended up with 5 qts. of sauce.

Then, we had to go to town to get chicken feed and grape jelly supplies (sugar, jars, pectin). He corrindered (is that a word?) grapes for 3 hours, plus helped me seal a couple of batches. He even wanted to bring the juice to a boil and skim off the top! I've got 41 1/2 pints so far, plus 2 gallons strained juice in the fridge. He tended chickens for me, while I cleaned up the kitchen and washed pots and buckets. He even said we make a good team. And I have to agree, we do.

When we work together, we don't always talk a whole lot. We just enjoy each other's company while getting the job done. He helps me with my stuff, and I help him with his.

He is always bringing home things I might enjoy, from an old thimble that I said I needed, to peaches and jars for canning.

He is a true blessing in my life. Even if he did drop the freezer

Well now I gotta say, my hubby may NOT be much of a gardener but he is good for the team in other ways!

He has always earned the living that allowed me to do this weird lifestyle of ours. He was more that supportive of me staying home with the kids when they were young.

He is VERY tolerant when it comes to my NEW PROJECTS ... be they raising chickens or making soaps.

He bought me a table saw for Valentines Day one year! And he often brings me little love presents like 5 gallon buckets or big plastic bottle to store soap in!

He never complains when I spend $90 on canning lids!

He loves to eat ... AND he is not picky! He gives me SO much good feedback when I fix him a yummy meal and enjoys eating it so much that is a reward in itself. Plus we go out to eat and he will say in a whisper "this is not nearly as good as what WE grow" - and really mean it!

He keeps me down to earth. I would probably be living (and starving) in a cardboard box somewhere if it weren't for him.

But ....of course, he is still a hubby and WE have just got to IMPROVE them!

LOL, mine's great in other ways too. Just that gardening isn't his thing. I think does just about everything else other than cooking and he be happy to do that if I wasn't so picky! He'll vacuum, throw in a load of laundry, always cleans up after meals, all without being asked or reminded. It's the way his father is too. It just came naturally to him. Unlike my dad who will sit there after eating a meal my mother cooked, reading his paper while she cleans up. He'll point out that the light bulb in his reading lamp has burned out and sit there in the dark until she goes to get a new one. :/

Sounds like my grandpa!
Probably like mine too which would be where Dad learned it. But my grandpa died before I was born so I never knew him. I've heard stories though. Sounds like he died from meaness. :(
