Tuesday was pretty much an errand day. DH had told me about a field of sunflowers right below his shop that were in full bloom. I drove down there and took my camera along. It was a beautiful sight. They are about chest high and there is probably about 15 acres of them. I love the way they turn toward the sun throughout the day. They are my favorite flower. Thought I would share a few pics:

Wednesday was cleaning and organizing my craft room. I finally got all my material neatly bolted on scrap cardboard pieces. (Note to self: quit buying material!!). I also got all the canning jars in boxes and neatly stacked above the garage.

Wednesday evening after supper we checked on my beans. They were ready. Got those broke, after about three hours and into jars this morning. I ended up with 32 quarts. (Another note to self: find somewhere to store all this canned food, pantry's full)

They probably could have stayed a couple of more days, but tomorrow or Saturday, I'm expecting 35 dz. ears of corn. Plus, my dad and I decided his beans will be ready Monday morning. He has 6 rows (90 ft. long) of white 1/2 runners.

I might get caught up in November

Why, punkin...you are quite lovely! Who knew? :D Hey! Have you ever seen that movie, Calendar Girls? I think you would love it. It has sunflowers in it also, for the same reason of which you spake.

I love sunflowers too....... :love How many flowers are that beautiful, so useful(bean trellis) and such a good source of food?

Aww . . . go on. No, I mean it, go on.

I really want to go back when they start to ripen to watch the goldfinches. That would be another sight to see.

I wonder if they are going to harvest them? The owner of the propety is a very wealthy individual. Maybe he just wanted to give us something pretty to look at.

We grow sunflowers for sale. It is just lovely in our yard at this time of year. There is just no way you can stay depressed or in a bad mood, when you look at those cheery flowers. The have definitely been named correctly.
We always have plenty of flowers that don't get cut. We save the best for seed for planting next year, we harvest as many as we can to feed to the chickens and the rabbit and the wild birds help themselves. We eat a few of them, but it is a lot of work to clean them out well enough for human consumption. Most of the seeds are pretty small.
Those are nice pictures.

I just remembered what that movie was about. Just your run of the mill average women who got together and did a sexy calendar, right? I can't remember why, though.

I am pooped!! :th

Me, DH and dad just finished putting up 42 dz. ears of corn. Daddy kept 6 dz and we squeezed the rest in our freezer. DH thinks he may have fixed the one he dropped well enough for it to seal. We are going to watch it for a couple of hours to make sure.

Thank goodness daddy has a shady back porch. We started at 8 am when it was 72 and finished at 3 pm when it climed to 94. At around 6 pm, it's supposed we're supposed to have heat indices of about 100 with the high humidity.

Except for daddy's green beans, the corn was the last major food to be put up. He has pole beans, so he is just going to pull the whole vine tomorrow evening. We should end up with about 70 qts.

I still have gallons of tomatoes to be worked up into sauce, but I can do that at my leisure. Tomatoes are still coming in at about 1/2 bushel every 2 days or so. The rain we had a couple of days ago coupled with this extreme heat is making them split pretty badly.

I love the pics, punkin! Sunflowers are one of my favorite flowers too.

You are certainly blessed with harvest this year and a good man to share life with! Congratulations on both. ;)
