We got back home around 11:30 last night from Loretta Lynn's Dude Ranch in Hurricane Mills, TN. She donated property to be used each year for Dirt Days National Pro-Am Quad Races. This was DS's first National Race, and he did not disappoint us. He placed 3rd and 8th in the 2 classes he raced in. There were about 500 riders who competed in all, 36 and 20 in DS's classes. DH and I are so proud of him doing so well in this huge event. He had 1 minor wreck in Sat. morning practice, but thankfully, no injuries or damage.

On the way out, we stopped to eat at Loretta's Country Kitchen. There, they took pictures of DS and his buddy to put on the wall along with thier autographs.

It was just a very fun and eventful weekend.

Yesterday, while walking back from the mailbox, I noticed a small bee swarm. It was about 2' off the ground in a shrub along our driveway. I immediately called a friend who call his brother. His brother is trying to get several hives up and going.

These are pics of the swarm and catching it:

First, my DH cut the branch from the tree while T. held on to it:

T. gently removes the branch:

He places the branch along with the bees in a 5 gallon bucket:

And, here they are, captured and ready to go to a new hive:

Just wanted to share a couple of pics of DS doing what he loves to do:

Keep in mind that the tracks are usually about a mile long with several jumps, rolls and tabletops. This national was a 4 lap race. In the first pic he is jumping a double-double. The 2nd, he is leaning to one side to counterbalance agains the turn. He regualrly hits speeds of 55-60 mph. The white thing that you see on his chest is a chest protector (better in the 1rst pic). He had a minor wreck in practice that broke the shoulder covering. If he hadn't been wearing it, he probably would have broken his collar bone. We had to put it back together with zip ties. It's times like that which makes me wish he played the violin or something.

I grew up riding horses. High speed events, like barrel racing, jumping and reining probably made my grandma feel the same way! Far safer than getting your thrills like that than by taking drugs. :thumbsup
