Then at 2 pm I went to another local farm and picked up two new doelings! They are Nubian and Oberhausen (sp?) mixed with pygmy. They should be medium sized goats when grown (they were just weaned) and they are sooooo tame that I will hopefully have no troubles later with trying to milk them. On top of that, I will be getting one of the five buckling kids from my friend!! I have already made my choice of which one, I'm just waiting for him to be old enough, too.
One of our friends was looking to buy some Oberhasli goats - she said they are gentle, quiet (as goats go) and are cold weather hardy. They produce a milk with good butterfat content. Friend liked them as they are a Swiss breed. She already has and loves her Saanens, which is also a Swiss breed. The Oberhasli will be smaller than her Saanens.

I am so with you on Elroy. George, my rooster (aka DCW) has a date with the stew pot. Just now, he was on the gate that leads into my backyard.....is nothing sacred???? He is getting his wings clipped tonight for sure. I wore shorts for the first time this year yesterday, you should see the scars on my knees!!!

Mean has gotta go, and not reproduce. Bye-bye, Elroy, bye-bye, George!

Live is far too short to deal with a bully... whether goat, chicken or otherwise.

Out with the Elroy and on with the sweet buck!

I am sure as handsome as Elroy is there will be someone out there who needs a pasture buck to stay with a wide roaming herd. Boer goats are just plain big as well.

Mrs. Doolittle rides again! It sounds like you are up to your ears in animals and babies, ducklings and chicks! What heaven!!! :love

I hate to see you get rid of ol' Elroy....he's beautiful~ for a cranky old goat! :)

Have your guests settled down into being helpful and a blessing yet? A new apartment? A new job? Hopefully?

:fl

Hey, Aly! I maybe, could be, hoping to be, praying to be getting a little ol' Jersey cow who will calve in May! :love
Oh, Bee! Congratulations on the possible Jersey cow!

Dh and I found Lady Clara, one of my Royal Palm hens, ripped off her nest today and all her eggs destroyed. The result of this attack made us re-think selling Elroy, since he has done a great job protecting the livestock in the pasture field. So, Elroy is staying now because he is a cranky old goat!

That's the word! Oberhasli! Thank you, keljonma!

The mom to the two new girls (who are named Licorice and Ginger) is half Nubian and Oberhasli. Dad is all pygmy.

Congratz on the new goaties!
I agree, mean has to go.
If the hen was torn off her nest in the first place, doesn't that mean that Elroy hasn't been doing his guard duties correctly?

Well, the turkey wasn't in the same area as teh goats. She was free ranging on the other side of the property and set her nest in the bushes and was found by the neighbors pitt bull that had got loose.

Sorry to hear about the turkey. :( How's everything with the housing situation, everybody pulling their weight?
