Back in the day when I was in school - jeans were not allowed, not even for after school events. In my senior year, girls were finally allowed to wear - DRESS PANTS! :D Other than that, a dress or skirt/blouse was required school attire.

Boys weren't allowed to wear jeans to school either back then. And if a fella came to school without a belt - he had to go buy one from the principal's office. It cost a quarter to get a belt, which was really a piece of kite string.

The first pair of jeans I ever owned I got during jr high, as I needed them for civil air patrol.

Hey, QA - the only $1 chicks at the TSC near us are the Cornish. I wanted to rescue all of the chicks sold at this TSC this year. Most times, those birds did not have water or feed. I complained to the manager - she has a large poultry flock at home - but she said she was having trouble getting the employee in her area to keep water with the birds. Sad - really sad.

At our "city" TSC it was hard to get the employees to work! All they wanted to do was "care for the chicks". They were all WELL fed and watered.

I keep telling TSC they need to let me come run the show when it's time for Chick days!! UGH I would so fire that employee!!!!!!!! I'd be in big trouble if I worked at TSC....I'd be bringing chicks home almost daily!!!!!!

Speaking of chicks! I totally forgot to tell ya'll that after we leave Meyers next Monday we are stopping off to pick up 7 Appenzeller Spitzhaubens from Swiss lines from a private breeder. They are just a few days old right now, and have the vaulted skulls. Ok, I guess the mother was from Swiss lines but the Father was from American lines, but the chicks still look nice!

My Meyers order consists of the following:
1 Deleware Roo
1 Salmon Faverolle Pullet
1 Standard Blue Cochin Roo
2 Standard Blue Cochin Pullets
5 Welsummer Pullets
7 Speckled Sussex Pullets

Then in June, I've got coming from McMurray:
5 Blue Cochin Bantams
5 Porcelain d'Uccles
5 Quail Antwerps (hoping to get another hen or two out of this!)
2 Standard Black Cochin Pullets for Polk!

and then I am done. June is my cut off month for getting babies/hatching out chicks for myself. I'll be hatching out for some chick orders though through out July/August.

Eeep..I forgot, we are getting 4 Guineas in July, but that's only because that was the earliest they were available!

ETA: I just realized, I need to do a chick count..........I have no clue how many chickens I have now, including chicks! :th

Also, I am down one Speckled Sussex Roo because Lance the turkey got into it with Big John, and sadly Big John bit the dust!

I'm sure Polk will be happy about this! Who is that boy hanging with now?

That's too bad, I thought Big John was a handsome fella!

I usually wait on my "franken birds" until mid June or July to order ... this way it is warm when they are chicks (= less brooder time) plus it is beginning to cool off a bit by the time I am finishing my roasters for the year. They have such problems with heat.

I am glad Aly that you have imposed a "cut off date" on your chick buying habits ... if not you might go a little overboard with them! ;)

I was at TSC last week and a lady was asking an employee if she needed a heat lamp for her chicks in the garage. It is in the 30's and 40's at night here still. The employee said NO! The chicks were less than a week old.

I walked over, interrupted, and set them both straight.....yes, I did manage to be civil. Only because I know that my advice would be rejected otherwise.....but I really wanted to tell that employee about the three little words she forgot about: "I DON'T KNOW!"

Ugh.. highschool.

I want to let you all know that NOTHING has changed.. well, except people can get away wearing the stupidest clothing. I have the same problem with Facebook, I got it to keep in touch with the few friends I had.. guess how many people I have on it? 53! Once I got Facebook people from my old school started adding me on there.. I left the school to get away from those people, not keep in touch with them! It wouldn't be that bad but these are people that could care less wether I lived or breathed, and they never talk to me, whether it is in public or on facebook.. I see no point. And some of them have 300 friends on their list! They can't possibly talk to everyone..I think they call it friend whoring..
Ok, sorry.. rant over!

Congratz on the rabbits! Good deal on the Dutch! Even if you had a female that had OK conformation, but correct markings I would breed them. I have two Dutch, the male has perfect markings, great conformation, and the female's markings are pretty messed up. I bred them and 3 out of 5 babies had perfect markings. Well.. all the babies died, but thats beside the point. She was due yesterday to have more..

Hmm He likes Louisa quite a bit. Quincy is so shy and backwards, think if he was an ostrich he'd live with his hand stuck in the sand. I've never seen Quincy try to pass a move on any of the girls, but Polk, now, he's not one to sit back and miss out on the action!

Yea, I did, too, and he was my choice Roo for my SS breeding....but I still have Strut, he's just a tad smaller than Big John was, but he's happy to do the job! I think the ladies actually prefer Strut as he isn't as rough with them.

Good luck with THAT job! :gig
Yea, tried to count, gave up...

We'll see how well it works out for me....last year I got chicks as late as October, and they just didn't manage to survive the winter. This year I refuse to get chicks too late in the year!!! *crosses fingers*

The auction was loaded down with rabbits today!!!!! all the rabbit cages were full. There were two pedigree Angoras there with their papers, but the poor things looked like they had never been groomed! There was a darling little dutch, but I wasn't sure if it was a doe or not.

What they had there that I really really REALLY wanted was two day old Turken chicks!!!! One was blue and one was white! But sadly, we had to be home by noon, and they were taking forever to auction off the baked goodies they do before the animals, and it was nearing 11:30 am....so I left and didn't bid at all on those two adorable little Turkens.......so DH agreed that I could try to get some Naked Neck hatching eggs from Dipsy Doodle Doo in a few weeks! :p

Quincy always had a thing for Betty Ford, our Buff Orpington, and Frances Cleveland, our Delaware. Both ladies were twice his size at the time... :gig

Back when I had acquired my Embden Geese, they included a free dog.

Zoe has been a great dog. Her greatest appeal (for me) is that I can let her walk freely in the yard without her taking off, she doesn't bother my livestock, doesn't dare go into the pasture field at all, and is insanely protective of our family and homestead.

Her former owner had told us she was spayed............

We didn't know she was in heat, had not worried about her running free in our yard, came home one day to find her tied with our blue heeler.... :/

So my spayed dog is due to deliver a litter of puppies TODAY. I am literally on puppy watch. She's in early stages of labor now, so I am hoping she has an easy delivery...to top it off, she's my DH's dog and today his DH's birthday Lol
