I have to admit that I was a very curious kid and destroyed a few birds nests and brought home a few eggs and baby chicks to my mothers dismay :>) And I grew up to be just fine...well, if you don't dig under the surface...:D

My 4 yo DD brought a very bright blue egg that she found outside and put in the fridge. It was in there for over a week...not sure what happened to it.

ARGH!!

I'm being tempted by Alpacas!!!!!!!!!!

:barnie

This lady is selling her Alpaca herd, and dummy me emailed her, just to discuss things with her, ask some questions, etc. Someone :smack me.

She's very nice, has answered all of my questions so far. I told her I would only be interested in a pair, if any at all....sigh....I'm going to do a lot of praying.

Quail, Now what would you do with Alpacas??? Will they hep provide for the family? Can you shave them and make any profit from the "wool"? Do you have space for them?

I just asked myself all of these same questions thin morning about goats!!!! :barnie

It's so tempting!!!!! :D

Not to egg you along, but did you ask her about their temperments, halter & packing capabilities? That is a really great deal!

If they have good attitudes you could buy them all, do a little training and sell them later, expect for a pair. Over here I haven't seen a single alpaca for under $1000.
I'm not sure about alpacas, but llamas can make great guard animals for goats and sheep, plus you'll be able to get fiber, its a win-win if you ask me.. ;)

But I'm biased because I've been wanting a pair of llamas for years. Lol.

Amos, you are not helping  No, I didn't ask about temperments, but now I want to. :p

She did say the intact males she has were "feeling their oats" because it's breeding season, but she separated out all the males from the girls and they've calmed down.

Honestly, as great of a deal that these Alpacas are, it is really bad timing for us. We are still working on adding on to our pasture, and as badly as I want them, the money it would take to get them is better spent on getting our pasture fence done and finishing up the renovations to my coops.

There is always next year. If it is in God's plan for me to acquire a pair of Alpacas, then He will work out in his time....sigh...but sometimes it sure is hard to wait on God's timing.

THAT is how I got into the milk cow business......just curious! No dead cats laying about but that curiosity sure cost money. Praying works and sometimes it leads to God showing me just how bad He wants me to have this milk cow. Me? I'm still wondering how in the world I got here....... :hu
