Wow thats really nice!
UGH. Why do people think they need to mess with other people's stuff? Boyd's house guests did the same thing to him and wrote on his incubator, filled with quail eggs.

I completely understand about power outages. A couple years ago we had 12 dozen pheasant eggs in the inc, we had two power outages, one last about 4 hours, the other maybe an hour, and we only had about twenty eggs hatch. When we threw the rest we made sure they broke open, about 90% had dead formed chicks in them. That sort of thing sucks.

Ya'll are full of ideas!!

We actually chose our Blue Laced Red Wyandottes for our Logo chicken, if that makes sense, but then I started re-thinking the whole logo thing. I have it pictured in my head what I want.

When someone says farm, what do you usually think of first? For me, it's a barn. I'm thinking a barn, with a treasure chest shape to it. Haven't figured out how to do that yet, but we're trying to sketch out something.

I want the colors of my Blue Laced Red Wyandottes because they are my favorite chicken. That's why the colors are that brownish red, cream, and greyish blue...the colors were pulled from the feathers of my own chickens.
It's called Gambrel roofed, and... for your reference, this is my sign using a Gambrel roofed barn as the sign (see the doors!), our sign is nothing fancy, gets the job done....

We don't really have a logo, just for the egg sales which is one of our hens silhoutted.

Our barn is a gambrel roofed barn, we don't use the barn but it's a big focal point when you come up the driveway to the house...

and to give you some inspiration for logos! ...

ANd as for colours, we're red and black ... our fencing is untreated cedar because I like the look of it, and our round pen when built will be that deep brown almost black as well as the riding ring's posts. The house has green trim & red trim on the porch, but I have to finish it still so it'll also have a lovely mustardy yellow too :)

Lupin!! your farm is just breathtaking!! I think it's absolutely beautiful!!!!!!!!!!

That photo of your farm looks like it belongs on a Christmas card!!

Thank you so much for sharing photos of your signs and farm!

I find the barns on a farm the most appealing aspects of a farm! (that sounds silly, doesn't it?)

Thank you! .. I love old barns, I just love the shape, the lumber, the craftsmanship... Our barn was re-roofed a number of years ago and the whole truss system was replaced in about the 40's, but the main part of the upper story is still all the original hand hewn lumber, and the supporting beams are actually whole trees, same with our house...it is supported underneath with whole trees. Originally built as a "skid house" and the dug under around the huge boulders to create a cold cellar which now houses the utilities except our electrical box, which is upstairs. I'll try to get a photo of the upper story of the barn tomorrow, it's pretty incredible... though it is filled with nasty old hay right now.

Haha yeah, that would be enough compost for a whole town... half of a 1500 sq. ft. filled with it, we're starting on it this fall as you have to step cautiously.

:barnie

I think this is my slooooooooooooooowest hatch ever!! :gig

The pipped BBS Orp from last night is slooooooooooowly zipping...and another one has made a HUGE pip.

The pipped Dom from last night has made a huge hole, has turned to zip, but now just seems satisified with screaming indignantly from it's shell!

The pipped Sussex has just started trying to zip, and I'm going to have to find some way to OCCUPY my hands today so I don't open that 'bator!!

:hide

No pics yet, I am waiting for the hatch to be completed....which better be before MONDAY at this rate....am hoping they'll all be done by tomorrow as I have Welsummers, Sussex, and Black Copper Marans (all were free, as I bartered for them!) that need to move to the hatcher tomorrow, and are due to hatch on WEDNESDAY!!!!!!! :barnie

We won't be home Monday, Tuesday, and maybe not Wednesday. Best case scenario after DH's surgery, we get to come home ON Wednesday. I don't want my nephew to open the 'bator while we're gone!

We have to be at the hospital on Monday for pre-op blood work. Tuesday we have to be at the hospital at 5 am so they can prep him for the OR....they have YET to tell us what TIME his surgery is. :he

They said that he should only have to stay over night, because they expect him to do just fine given he's young and in reasonable good health. He doesn't smoke, drink, use drugs, or have any other behaviors that would compromise his health or ability to heal....

On the flip side, they said if there are any problems, he might have to stay in the hospital for up to 6 days!! I'm going to have a coronary while I'm up there, worried about whether my nephew is taking care of all the farm stuff or not...which I doubt...I may have to ask my mom to come feed critters. She's already taking all 5 kids home with her.......

I had asked nephew if he'd feed/water everyone while we're gone and he says, "Sure, it's not hard." But when I've asked him to come out so I can show him where things are, how I do things, he comes back with, "I know, I've watched you." :barnie Just because you've seen me OUT THERE doesn't mean you KNOW what I am doing or where everything is!!! :somad

Ok sorry just had to get that out.....

I understand your worries and fears.....everytime I come home from a trip, something...usually several things.....just aren't done right. Usually food and water, everyone hungry and thirsty. Potted plants dead. Etc.

Which shows that people really don't see it....if they did, they would do everything super-perfect on the last day, even if they neglected stuff throughout the week.

But everyone survives......just not my sanity.....

It is only a short time....if he has to stay in, you can run home and get everything back in order once a day......but the docs are right, he is young and healthy, and from your journal, has remained very active in spite of his pain. He will do just fine.........hugs and big smooches!!!!

So right... you are only 2 hours away.

I realize that is a 4 hour round trip and you want to be by hubby's side, but he WILL probably nap on some painkillers for a while and then ... but only if you are REALLY worried.

I would stop by home several times IF he needs to have the extended stay, however.

You will both make it OK and then this worry will be over! :) :hugs
