It seems they give people the most run around when it is the back involved. I guess it is because so many LAZY bums use their "aching back" as an excuse. That just causes problems for those who really need it.

Hopefully you are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

You know what, just the fact that both times the person at the other end of the line was understanding and gave me the chance to express my frustrations and were kind and compassionate was better than what I've been dealing with when talking to SSI/Disability and attorneys.

My mom had SSI with her back. She had three ruptured disks removed (back in the barbarian days before lasers) and arthritis in her spine. It was hard for her even then AND her doctor was willing to go to court for her!

The reason they denied him the last time was, and I quote, "still has mobility in arms and legs, so therefore we find you can work a job." Forget the fact that he couldn't pick up anything from the floor, that he can't stand/sit for more than 15-20 minutes at a time without being in pain, and he's not supposed to be driving due to the pain medication he was on at the time.

BUT they did confirm that the MRI's, catscans, and all the other tests he had proved that his condition must keep him in chronic pain.

Because he still had use of his arms and legs, he is not disabled enough to collect. :th

Well if that's the case, then these kids who are getting it for ADD/ADHD are not disabled because they have use of their arms and legs, too.

They ask weird little questions like "Do you enjoy watching TV?" Which is to imply that if you can watch TV you COULD be watching a monitor and be a security guard somewhere! Pain is the thing.

With my arthritis I had my job #2 boss quizzing me when I had missed a lot of work last year. Well how could I still do job #1? The how is that on job #1 at school I can sit some, walk some, stand some and even lay down if I need to to keep the pain down. Most jobs don't give you that freedom.

He actually applied for a security guard position last year! They denied him employment because of his condition!

Exactly! He needs a job that he can sit some, walk some, stand some, etc. He can't find anything like that.

He did work the tree farm last fall, and enjoyed that. He quit due to the drug uses by co-workers, but the boss put him down as laid off and asked if they could call him back this year. They've not called back, and we know they are back to work. He couldn't do that job now anyway, though.
