:gig Thanks for the Quincy chuckle. Looks like he's gender AND species confused. Too funny.

Wanna hear a weird story about gender confusion? My sil has a very complex system in her barn. She raises polish and silkies. So she has different pens for eachtype. She isolates the roos that she is not using for breeding. Her pens are fox proof. Well, this one roo, who is a silkie brahma cross, (she says he throws beautiful colours)has been isolated two times now. She has used him for breeding before, so she knows he's a dude. But two times she has isolated him, sometimes for over a month, she has found eggs where he beds down at night. Both times. About an egg a week. She almost didn't want to confide in me, b/c she knew how crazy it sounded, but she swears it is true. I tried looking for info sayng it might be remotely possible, but found nothing.

I think your Quincy is adorable looking after babes. if only my roo would be so nice.

I had a roo that looked after the babies. He was better then some of the mommas.
That does look too funny though.
Two years ago I had a silkie raise a turkey, you should have seen it when the turkey baby tried to get under the silkies wing :gig

How are Quincy and the poults doing today?

Those are some pretty interesting stories - I have never had that experience with a roo before. I cannot even imagine a silkie with a turkey poult!

QA - got your pm. Glad to hear that a phoenix hen was laying that extra egg in Louisa's area. Quincy just got his "manhood" back. :D

Yes, Quincy got his manhood back lol

Spent most of today outside working on the breeder coop. Got two more posts in for it. I'm ready to start running more 2x4's tomorrow afternoon and maybe put the wire up...we'll see.

I also worked on a Sussex breed page for BYC. If they approve my page, I get a free Gold Feather Membership...can't beat free, right? :gig

Today was a pretty good day. Ran a few critters to the auction, should get that check on Wednesday.

Tomorrow Ernie has his follow up appointment for his surgery. He has to get back x-rays to see if everything is healing OK and haven't moved. Means another 2 hour trip one way to Youngstown.

Wednesday, I have a lady coming to purchase some 6 week old pullets in the morning. Then Ernie starts his first session of PT at noon. Might be going to check out a You Pick Blueberry patch with Becky in the late afternoon/early evening, depending on what she finds out when she calls them.

Thursday and Friday I think we get to stay home, nothing to do except normal farm stuff and maybe work on that breeder pen (again and still...grr).

Then comes SATURDAY!!!!!!

Saturday we are getting a day "off" so to speak. We'll be getting up extra early to feed/water all the animals because we are going to a Family Farm Field Day!!!!!!!!

It counts as a homeschool field trip for the kids. It's in Holmes County. My mom is going with her family, too, so we're going to follow them over.

It's mostly geared to the Amish, so there will be a lot of non-power ideas being tossed around...meaning things that aren't run on electric ;) Which is totally awesome!!

There will be guest speakers and workshops and even kids stuff. The keynote speaker for the day????....................

JOEL SALATIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you read that Bee????????????? :gig I'll see if I can get his autograph for you!! :D ;)

Joel Salatin is going to be talking about What he sees coming in the future, "The positives of Family Farm Among the Negatives in 2009" and "Options for Small Acreage" (and the latter is the whole reason I want to go!)

Then Yoder Custom Meats is going to talk about the 2 ways to butcher pigs, which I'm super interested in since I'm hoping to get pigs soon.

This is the first year we'll be going to the Family Farm Field Day, so I'm super excited to go. It starts at 8:30 am and runs until 4 pm. We're hoping to spend the day out there. I'm sure there's lots to see and learn!

I'll be taking a lot of pictures and notes to share with ya'll!!!!!!!!!
