Well, my nephew has left, taking his precious 3 year old daughter with him :hit

I may have been looking forward to having my house back, but my I'm going to miss little N so much.

I took a ton of pictures of all the kids together today. Our nephew has promised to call if he should break down, and will definitely call when he arrives to where he is going....which is 2 states away :hit

Is it wrong that I'm secretly hoping the van breaks down and we have to go get him?? :duc

We got pictures of N with all of us, hugging and kissing, and just her being cute in general. Then lots of pictures of our kids with her, several cute pics of my DD with N....sigh...

Ok I know I am not going to sleep well tonight, because I'm going to be worried!! :hit

I'm a little concerned about my Quincy, ya'll!!

He seems to be having a gender/species identity crisis!! :ep

We went out this evening to put the turkey poults up, and this is what we found!!!!!!!! :th

Quincy.jpg

QUINCY! FLUFFED UP LIKE A MAMA HEN WITH THE TURKEY BABIES TUCKED UNDER HIS WINGS!!!!!!!

To top it off, "he" pecked at us when we tried to put the babies up!

Add to that the fact that we've been finding TWO brown eggs in the nesting box, which has us totally baffled since Louisa is the only of age brown egg laying hen in that coop and run......:hu

Either we've been wrong all along and Quincy is a GIRL, or I've a very confused rooster?????????

I also wanted to share this pic of the new day time run I made for my young chicks. It's not that big, but serves the purpose of allowing my young chicks some time on the grass so they can learn to scratch for bugs and stuff. In this pic is 2 standard blue cochins, one speckled sussex, and 4 black tailed buff japanese.

Didn't cost us anything to make, either, since we already had all the stuff here just laying around.

I'VE BEEN UP SINCE 4:30 AM.......

Not because I wanna be either. :/

The baby woke up around that time, wouldn't go back to sleep. Then Gracie the pup woke up, whining to go outside....so I'm up...had one cup of coffee...now just waiting for the sun to rise (almost there!), the dew to dry off the grass, and I plan to be outside working on getting the rest of the posts in for the breeder coop....maybe start running the wire....brave the saws by myself and measure/cut what I need for the doors to the individual pens...yea right like I'll get that far today.. LOL Well, ya never know....

I want to take the indoor brooder chicks outside and let them have some running around time in the outdoor daytime pen. I think it will do them some good. I have 3 chick pens I plan to rotate in that pen....Think I'll find an old dish of some sort that I can make into a chickie dust bath for the babies.......they should like that....

Plan to install small roosts into the back of the rabbit hutches that I have chicks in...we have a 1/2 in dowel rod we are going to use for the roost...just gotta find small pieces of 2x4's (plenty of that here) to drill out and fit the dowel rod into...then going to screw it into the hutch so I can remove it if I ever put a rabbit back in...those 2 month old chicks need to start learning to roost!!

Well, it's almost light out....let's see if an early start today means more work done at the end of the day.........

When he was growing up, he preferred Betty our Buff Orp and Frances our Delaware. But he did try to favor Louisa with his genetics a few times.

The Fab Five will be 1 year old on July 17. I've never had a roo change his mind that late, but maybe someone has heard of that.

I think the only way you are going to know if Quincy is now Barbara Bush is to sit out there and observe. Take coffee with you.....

What do you mean by change his mind? I've never heard of a roo changing his mind about being a roo LOL

I was trying to be funny -- before coffee.....

Martha, our Lakenvelder crowed once, but that was before she started laying eggs.

Quincy has been crowing since he was about 8 weeks old. He started "flirting" with Frances (everybody's favorite flock bully :D ) shortly afterwards. I think any young cockerel willing to put the moves to FRANCES is a real roo..... :gig

I have a question - Why does Quincy look so wet in that pic? Okay 2 questions... can you put Louisa and Quincy in a pen by themselves for a few weeks? That would tell you if you are getting two eggs (from Louisa AND Quincy).

I think you are going to have to spend some time watching him to see what is going on.

Hmmm, I love a good mystery!
I should have hopped on here to join you. I was up at 5:00 with the pup, again. It's going to be a long day.

Because he is a little wet LOL He took a turn in the duck bath...he wasn't supposed to, he just jumped in.

I don't have a pen yet that I could put them in by themselves, but I will here shortly. I'll have to try that.
