Bee, that's exactly what we thought, because the cops really didn't seem to be that surprised to find it there.

Disappointing, to say the least. :(

Wait a minute, stop the presses and back up a page. Aly, did you say this outing counts as a homeschool field trip for the kids? You mean, on top of everything else, you HOMESCHOOL your kids??
:ep
Good grief, woman!! I thought they banned human cloning but you must have gotten some kind of special permission because there's no way one person could do everything you do!!!

Yes, I homeschool my kids.

Hey, I'm not perfect, they don't get school work every day, I guess I'm more of an unschooler than a homeschooler. Living on our hobby farm is the meat of their education. We make every aspect a learning experience.

Heck, my DD is 10 years old, she's doing home ec already...she can change a diaper, fix a bottle, open a jar of baby food, wash dishes (this is a new skill she's recently learned after begging to help withe dishes for 3 years), she can brew a pot of coffee, help make a grocery list, wash laundry, sweep the floor, make a bed, and we're working on learning to make a grocery list. She knows how to cook certain things...Like cookies and pot roast and she can make cold sandwiches.

Learning to sew is on the agenda this year, too.

All of the kids (right down to 4yr old son) knows how to properly feed and water all of the animals, they are learning how to recognize weeds in the garden, how to hoe, and this week, harvest some of the garden.

Grocery shopping is Math.

Bath time is health and personal hygiene.

Bedtime stories count as reading.

We're actually doing testing this week in the evenings. I will have to send the test in once it is completed for the state to grade, and then I have to send the test results into the superintendent when I send in my notification of homeschooling.

Only my oldest 2 children do actual school work (or what we call busy work). My 2nd DS will be starting with "busy work" this fall. My 4yr DS is going to go to the local headstart this fall. That will enable me to focus on the older 3 kids for 4 1/2 hours each day in the afternoon. I like the local headstart program, as they encourage parent involvement, and they are NOT tied in with the local school system (big plus IMO lol).

We don't get breaks in the summer, either. The kids get their "school vacation" from the week of Thanksgiving until New Years. They still learn things in those few weeks, like importance of family, and giving, and generosity, and still read daily....but the rest of the year, we're doing some sort of learning experience or activity or school lesson.

Now I'll admit, the week Ernie had his surgery, and the week after, not a lot of schooling was going on. We're starting to get back into the swing of things now, though.

I've been to Holmes County several times, as a kid growing up and as an adult, and I have a few friends who live out that way.

Never shopped in the Amish stores, though.
