Ok so today was a road trip to Meyers for myself, DD, 4 yr old DS, the baby, and Ernie.

As Ernie had never been to Lehmans' before, and we only had to go 2 miles out of the way to get there, I swung by a Sufficient Selfer's dream store!!

They have so many neat-o things there!! Ernie found a garden hoe there that he really likes and we'll most likely be going back to get later. They have an entire wall of nothing but cookie cutters in the baking section...hundreds and hundreds of cookie cutters! I let DD and 4 yo DS each choose a 99 cent cookie cutter as their souvenir for the day. DD chose a horse and DS chose an elephant.

We left from there and headed off to Meyers. I managed to miss my exit, took a wrong turn, and drove about 10 miles out of the way LOL Finally got back on track, and arrived at Meyers around 2:30.

I nearly fell over myself for the baby call ducks they had in!! Ernie talked me out of them. Don't know how he managed that! And for once, I almost left with just my order!! I picked up our Guineas and of course I had to ask what extra chicks they had....well not anything I was interested in...but I had promised 4 yo DS that he could get himself a chick since he is the only one of the oldest kiddos not to have one...so I told Charlotte (the employee, how sad, we're on a first name basis!) that DS had a $2 spending limit, and were there any chicks he could get for $2? She said Yes, she'd get him a chick for $2. She runs in the back and comes back out a few minutes later with a little Rhode Island Red Pullet. DS was absolutely thrilled!

So we paid for our orders and I also got my chick feed while there (it was $3 cheaper than what I pay here for it!!) and we headed home.

Get home, and I call Becky and our other friend to let them know our guineas were here. Becky came to pick up hers and some Black Australorp Pullets....see lori! I did downsize!! :gig

Sold two of the newly hatched ducklings to my mom today. Might have the black swedish call duck sold to someone, too. We'll see though.

Tomorrow I hope to work on some more pens and Ernie has therapy, so we'll see how that goes.

Hope ya'll have a good night!

You actually have a Lehman's store??? Like a building. Wow, I am so envious. I drool over the catalog all the time. Oh, maybe it's good we don't have one.

Hey ya'll, our Baby Boy will be ONE year old tomorrow!!!!!!! I can't believe it's been a year already!

We're throwing him his party on Saturday. He gets his own little 4 inch cake to demolish with Winnie the Pooh on it. :D
It is officially the day! HB Little Guy!! One is such a milestone and that first year always seems to go by sooooo quickly! :)

ETA: Are you sure, my friend, that you really understand the term "downsizing your poultry holdings"? :gig

Jealous again.
Oh don't be jealous! Just about the only thing we could afford in that store were the 99 cent cookie cutters :gig It is a neat place to go look and wish though!

Told Ernie we need to go back with about $1K in our pockets if we want to do some serious shopping there.........figured he's nix that idea.............instead he agreed!

Apparantly not? :p

I'm selling one of the call ducks this morning though.....LOL The little black swedish hen is getting a new home! :D

Oh and I just put some eggs in the 'bator last night...Blue Silkie eggs (I'm only hatching them in hopes of getting 1 roo, since I have 2 hens, and just need a roo.....we'll see....), some EE's which I plan to sell, but who knows, they might go back in with the layer flock..........and two Olive Eggers...which I'm not sure what the use of Olive Eggers are? Just another mutt chicken, but they were freebies with the Silkie and EE eggs...so one can't complain right?

Have I ever told ya'll that I really dislike mutt chickens??? :hide It's nothing personal, and if I wasn't so interested in breeding true breeds, I wouldn't mind keeping mutts...but I just don't have the coop capacity and space to keep every mutt chicken that hatches.... :hide

Let's not tell my son, that, though, as he really loves his little Brownie, whom he hatched last October...who looks to be a Brabanter crossed with a Red Star.... :hu

Ok I gotta talk about my Quail Antwerp Belgian d'Anvers for a bit...

As ya'll might remember, on June 8 I got some new chicks...4 of which are Quail Antwerps..out of those four, amazingly only ONE was a little cockerel!! I'm super stoked about that! This will give me 2 breeding trios for next spring!!

Now I must tell you, I've already picked a favorite among the 3 hens...she has an awesome muff going on!

So much of a muff going on, she reminds me of Princess Leia from Star Wars! So, guess I'm naming her Leia and I'll have to name the little cockerel Hans Solo....can't exactly name him Luke now, since Leia and Luke were twins! HAHAHA (dis ain't no West Virginie now!) j/k! j/k!!

Really, I am pleased with the muff she's got going on so far. I hope to get some quality babies out of her as a result!!
