Some how I got on their mailing list!

When you have as little yard as I do ... it causes me nothing but grief.

I swear these chickens ARE an addiction!

So the phone is out AGAIN :barnie They said they will have it fixed by 9 pm today.... :barnie

Had to come to the library to get a shipping address for an egg order. Will be leaving here and shipping those out.

We lost our Royal Palm turkey hen, Gwen. :hit She was sitting on a nest of 15 eggs, due to hatch in about a week. Yesterday we found her laying under my Jeep in the backyard. Couldn't figure out what she was doing there. She picked her head up and she chirrupped at us.

Carefully moved the Jeep, as we couldn't reach her, and looked her over. Something had ripped open her hind end, and she had maggots eating her alive! We rinsed off the maggots, but we were too late and she passed within the hour. :hit

We ran back to where we knew her nest was and it was undisturbed. We carefully picked up the eggs and brought them in the house. I candled them in our dark bathroom. Out of 15 eggs, 4 were definitely rotted on the inside, so we pitched them. We put 11 eggs in the 'bator....3 are questionable, but 8 of them definitely had viable, active embryo's moving inside. They are very close to hatching. We're pretty sure they should be hatching by the end of this week. :fl that I get atleast 5 to hatch, and mostly girls.

I had planned to trade some of these poults to PamsPride for some BJG chicks, but I think now we're going to keep all that hatch in hopes of having some RP's for next year. The RP's were our biggest money maker this year in hatching egg sales. :hit

Plan to get a couple Bourbon Red poults from Becky when they hatch out. Ernie is adamant that we need to build them a coop with covered run, so we don't lose another turkey hen.

Right now we're down to Lance and Sapphira, so I guess next spring I'll be breeding for Blue Royal Palms.

:( I miss my Gwen. She was our pet. She'd fly up on our lap and let us pat her back. She loved the attention.

Today is DS2's birthday. He's 6. Small get together this afternoon, and we plan to grill out and have lots of side dishes. I might make some deviled eggs, too. We'll see.

So sorry to hear that about your Gwen.

I still can hardly believe how sweet turkeys can be. Imagine I avoided them for years based on what other people said about them. They are such sweet natured creatures. Lots of turkeys in my future.

Tell more about a Blue Royal Palm. They sound really interesting.
