From what I've heard and read, alpacas can be used as guard animals for fox, but usually are run with LGDs or llamas as the guard animals.

He could be spaz because alpaca are herd animals. You just separated him from his herd. Give him time to settle down, keep him confined to a smaller area until he feels at home, and he should be fine.

This morning Job was out there, as big as life, and I still wanted to pinch myself!

How long have I been wishing/dreaming/hoping for an Alpaca? Not sure that I ever really believed I'd get one, but he's here!!!

:th - me after the auctioneer gave me second pick

As I was watching him run in the big pasture, I had this surreal feeling of actually being in the Doctor Doolittle Movie....The original movie...didn't they have a Llama or something in the original black and white? I think he's quite beautiful when he runs!

Ernie's been having a lot of fun teasing me/tormenting me (as you'll see in the pics)

Went out this morning to try to get Job into the smaller area of our pasture up by the barn (worked for about 15 minutes, then he shot back out to the bigger field.) Our dog, Zoe, went with me. Turns out, she's good with herding! And when I called her off, or told her to stay back, she listened! Hmmmm....me thinks I need to read up on training herd dogs and work with Zoe more!

Here's the pics Ernie took this morning, in sequential order....I wasn't aware he was out there with the camera at first. In fact, the way he was positioning the camera and standing, he had me believing he was talking on the phone! :gig

Job is off to the right in this pic, and I'm coming up from the back pasture to the smaller area. That's Boss, the calf that almost got away, in front of me.

Chase and Boss showing Job the way, and I've just realized Ernie is taking pics! I think Zoe is in there, too.

Just me. Don't know why he took this pic! Look at me, in my get down and dirty farm clothes!

Hey Look!! Fat Woman can RUN! (I was trying to get to the entry to the back pasture to block his exit!)

Definitely think I'm going to have to practice a lot of patience with him!

When I get him a wife, I think I'll name her Patience!

Hey, you could start a new exercise program, make a dvd and everything! "Moving and grooving with your farm animals"

I can't believe Ernie will even let you near the auction house anymore :gig

My husband would kill me if I came home with an alpaca!

Congrats, though, I know you've been wanting one for a while now!

The Pushmi-pullyu
The pushmi-pullyu (pronounced "push-me-pull-you") is an antelope/unicorn which has two heads at opposite ends of the body. When it tries to move, both heads try to go in opposite directions. Dr. Dolittle meets it on his voyage to Africa to save monkeys.

In the original 1967 film, the pushmi-pullyu was instead portrayed as a double-headed llama.

The more recent Eddie Murphy film has a brief scene where it is walking in the background while Dr. Dolittle talks to the tiger in the cage. This is in keeping with the fact that this movie version was only loosely based on the books.

Girl, you are so entertaining!
Now is that guy a young fella or full grown? How big do they get? I know nothing about alpacas.
