So QA, what are you doing at auction today???

Well, we ran into our mutual friend Charlie at the auction.

Believe it or not, we brought NO critters home. scouts honor! but we did get a nice and very green second cutting round bale of hay.

We're still going to get the stuff from Ray, but the round bale will make it easier to feed Chase and Boss instead of giving out square bales as needed. We're going to save the square bales for Blessing and my rabbits.

The chickens like a bit of hay now and then as a treat, too.

I've got kids working on school assignments now, and I'm trying to decide what's going to be for dinner.

Oh, and Becca, my mom called TWICE today while we were at auction asking when are we going to go pick up the pigs.

It's ok, I still love him. (I think)

I made it in and out of the pen in one piece today - but I took a rooster stick with me! never have had to use the rooster stick here before...Zeus learned an immediate respect for the rooster stick

It's all good.

A good rooster stick certainly gives one some piece of mind about safety - maybe you should have your little darlings start carrying them around too..... :/

Since the subject is still on foul fowl ...

Q_A, I wanted to tell you about my French coppper maran chicks. (They aren't foul btw.)

They have been on my kitchen counter for a week enjoying the sun etc from the window, a grow light keeps them warm. They are all set up.

Anyway, I have raised probably 100's of chicks this way, all different flavors of chicks. I have to tell you that these little guys (now 2 weeks old) have the most wonderful "chirp". They talk to each other all day and into the evening in this subtle, soothing chirp. Something I have never heard chicks to before. They sound as pretty as a song bird. It is amazing. Makes me smile.

They are so calm and happy...and that chirp is incredible...supposed to be great egg layers too.

Anyway just thought I'd pass on that little bit of info on to ya.

And then he totally went Tonya Harding on me and tried to take out my right knee cap with his wings! Stunned, I dropped to the roosting bench in the duck shed, picked up the plastic feed pan, and beat that ungrateful gander over his head.

i cant believe i missed all this yesterday!!!

ok so i wouldnt say evil "plan".......

and all y'all thought i was kidding when i told you the story about how me and Ti had to fight that OD in hand to hand combat... i hate to say it but if that IS "son of OD" than it hasnt even started yet!.

hum.. maybe i'll work on the story of the whirling swirling dance of death.... yet another me vs OD throw down.

well, hon, if you arent permanently scarred you have yet to receive The Mark Of The Gander..... *rolls up sleeve, shows scar, others ooohh and ahhhh*

remember if you need to get ahold of him do this:

1. assume a low, sumo wrestler like stance
2. in a vin disel like motion (right out of Pitch Dark) lock eyes and move in sync with The Evil Gander until he's hypnotized or thinks you are a nut bag
3. strike, like a serpent, by grabbing him by the beak
4. in a kind of reverse half nelson, whip around and grab him from behind with your other hand - NEVER LET GO OF HIS BILL
5. pin his wings, folded into his body
6. march down to the pond, carrying that demon, swearing a blue streak
7. unceremoniously toss him with a canon ball like splash into the water
8. stomp up the hill, still swearing like a drunken sailor

steps 6 - 8 are optional. but thats what i did with OD one time

Nope, not permanently scarred, but I am still sore and have several bruises around my knee area....and one big one on the back of my knee where Zeus bit me.

Other than that, I'm ok!

And guess what arrived today?!

OUR PIGGIES!!!!

the turkeys have been kicked out of the kennel, and we tightened up the corners to hold our piggies...there's 4 of them out there...two red and white and two black and white...one boy and one girl of each color...the poor boys are still recovering from their recent...uh...removal of certain parts

They are very cutsie! I can't wait for butcher time! whoot! fresh side bacon, hams, sausage, lard....etc. etc. etc...whoot! :bun

we really need a piggie smiley here!

anyway, I took pics, but the camera batteries died. As soon as they are charged, and after we return from 4H tonight, I'll try to get them up and posted!
