I would join eggbid, except they won't allow anyone with a free domain email to join. You have to have a paypal account that you pay for.

Just got my first request for a refund on shipped eggs. I sent out test eggs from my call ducks. She said they arrived completely shattered and that my packing was lacking. I packed them the same way as I always do but this is the first time someone has said their eggs arrived shattered. She said she took pics so I requested she send those to me before I just issue a refund.

E said he doesn't want me to sell hatching eggs anymore, just to hatch the chicks myself and sell the chicks. I s'pose i can do that, I just really don't want to ship chicks - even tho legally I can now.

It's kind of frustrating to decide what to do. Especially since I've finally made my decisions on what four - five breeds I really want to work with.

So I had eggies from my own birds (and a couple from Becca's Millie's) due to hatch yesterday/today. So far, one Millie is out, another is pipped/trying to zip, and 3 of my 4 Spitzhaubens that I had set from my own pair have hatched! whoot!

Fixing to head out side and work on more breed pens, and I'm making plans to enlarge my Black Langshan flock.

It's going to be another busy spring day.

Since I have digital camera, I always snap picks of delicate things I pack. That way if some lying scum bag tries to say I packed it wrong, I have evidence I did not.

Yup! When you are shipping things like glass urns full of someone's ashes, you want to make sure you don't start a family incident.

(FYI - 7 yards of bubble wrap will get it across country safely!)

Also when someone says "shattered" it sounds very DRAMA QUEEN to me. You would not get "shattered" eggs in an in tact box unless you used almost NO padding.

That's why I'm wanting to see the pics before I just send her a refund. She says the box itself was fine.

This is my packing technique:

Shredded newspaper in bottom of box.
Layer of bubble wrap ontop of shredded paper.
More shredded paper inside bubble wrap.
Bubble wrap each egg individually, nestle wrapped eggs inside shredded paper inside bubble wrap.
Fold ends of that bubble wrap over top of bubble wrapped eggs and shredded paper.
Put more shredded paper over top bubble wrap.
Stuff scrunched up plastic shopping bags over top shredded paper -enough bags that nothing inside the box can move.
Tape box shut and ship.

That's exactly how I packaged her eggs.

Here's the big kicker - She paid $6.01 for Six Show Quality Call duck eggs as a test patch. Plus shipping. I will only be refunding her what she paid for the eggs themselves, not the shipping costs.

Not only that, but I sent her 9 eggs, not just 6. She says there was egg yolk over everything, and only two eggs were not broke but they are too scrambled to even hatch.

QA, I agree that sounds totally fishy. I think she is just upset that her hatch didn't work out and is blaming the shipping.

I agree - something sounds wrong about the status of the eggs at arrival........

Yes, I did see the email from Betty, just haven't taken the time to reply yet. I've had too much going on.

I'm still waiting for her to send me pics, and bracing myself for my first negative fb ever.

In the meantime, I have two more Mille Fleurs pipping/zipping, and then I don't have anyone else due to hatch until Friday.

What do you guys think? These are the pictures she sent me of the call duck eggs I mailed.

First pic, to me, it looks like 5 of the 9 eggs are still intact, while the rest are crushed. :hu

Is it fair of me to refund her for the call duck eggs MINUS shipping charges? or should I refund her shipping, too?

I had my concerns with this transaction from the beginning, becuase she didn't want me to ship the actual eggs she was bidding on to begin with. Instead, she wanted me to collect fresh for a Monday shipment, which I did. The auction for the eggs she was supposed to get ended on a Wednesday and would have shipped on a Thursday. She said she didn't want them at the PO all weekend, so please re-collect and ship on Monday, so I did.

So now, should I refund for the eggs only, or eggs + shipping? I've never had anyone ask for a refund before.
