Quail,

Refund everything because buyers are always right. She can/may leave you negative feedback but you (as a seller) can only leave positive. If she leaves you a negative, reply to it that payment was refunded and a very bad customer.

I would change your listing that you would only refund the cost of the item, not the s&h but Paypal may make you refund all of it if they file a claim. Paypal is owned by eBay and buyers are also always right.

The other option is to insure you packages so if they are broken, the buyer than has to deal with the post office in gettting refunded. You have to hide the cost of insurance because a seller is not allowed to make the buyer pay for insurance. Add your shipping and handling costs to your starting bid price (offer free s&h) so the claim will also cover the postage. If not, only the value of the item is covered.

Block her (I can send you the link where to do that) so that she can not rebid on your items unless she uses another eBay name. If she does, you can report her to eBay for that and get her kicked off.

I have been selling on eBay for over 10 years and it is not what it use to be for sellers.

Holy cow, what a hassle.
When I read about a bird person ripping off another bird person, it almost makes me more offended than everyday sleazy people. I guess this site and BYC have made me expect more out of bird folks.

I hope you get it resolved with no more headache :/

even tho, If she had o interest and then out of the blue she would jump out of nowhere and demand her money back, I would tell her to go to hell and take a toothbrush... but that is me. If your hubby won't be nagging you about refunding it in full, I think you should go for it just like the others said.
I KNOW you figured it out by now, BUT you might wanna think about putting some small paragraph in the auction, mentioning that, a photo of the box and each broken egg with your handwriting visible is a condition of getting a refund. You may write something saying that you had a bad experience and that is why you are so strict about the refunds.

Or better yet ...

"Shipping an item as fragile as eggs is very hazardous. Even with the best possible packaging some breakage may occur. Since this is a problem beyond my control no refunds for broken eggs or eggs that do not hatch will be given."

Actually, these were not sold on eBay. Where I sold these, buyers can leave feedback, but sellers cannot as far as I know. I'll just leave it at that.

I did message her and said I could do one of two things:
1) re-ship to her this coming Monday or
2) refund the $6.01 she paid for the eggs.

I'm waiting for her reply.

This experience, though, is a good example of why I'm afraid to list my eggs on eBay.

I'm going to try to list my hatching eggs on my local craigslist and see how that goes. I think local people should be able to just pick up, and I can ship to people further out in the state.

Thanks guys.

Yep, it got cold, but no frost or snow. Thank goodness!

In other news, just got my message from the call duck buyer, she opted to have a new batch of eggs shipped. :D They will go out on Monday. :D

Thanks everyone!

WE got snow last night and this morning. In fact, it is snowing as I type this! Luckily, it does not appear to be sticking to the ground. Ahhh, Spring in NE Ohio!

Good luck with the duck egg shipment......

How do you feel about visiting up north to see some Polk relatives (some are frizzle, I think) after the nice weather returns? Let me know...... ;)
