Sooo, I've been wondering...

What's the first thing you are going to hook up to your new well?
A GARDEN HOSE!!!!!!!

I was actually eyeballing a 75' hose at our local hardware store. It was on sale for $15.99...and a nozzle attachment that had several different settings like pressure wash, shower, jet, mist, etc. for $8.99....but E told me to just hold off before I got too excited over a garden hose and nozzle :p

We still need a few little things to actually "hook up" the well itself, like wiring and plastic pipe, and a rope to tie to the pump, and a breaker...and I think E mentioned something else. I'm not sure.

We planned to buy a 5 ft outdoor pump handle, to install, so that until we're ready to hook it up in the house, we'll at least have access in our own back yard. The outdoor pump handle can have a garden hose screwed on it. :p

Anyway, we priced them new, they're about $50. We didn't think that was too bad, but it's not high up on the importance list - pump and holding tank were first on the list, electrical stuffus needed and pipe second. Yesterday my FIL came down and said he's no longer using his outdoor pump handle (that's the spigot we used to get our water from at his house - and he took it out so we couldn't get water there anymore) so he offered it to us FREE!

Heck, yea! we're taking it! but, I did tell E I believe an alterior motive is there - his well and pump and holding tank are all SHOT. He has to drive to get water now, too, so I'm thinking he's thinking he'll capitalize on our well by giving us the spigot. Then, he'll come down and ask to get water, and if we say no, he'll be able to come back with, "Well, you wouldn't have that spigot if I hadn't given it to you."

So, the question is, do we want that headache? Course, doesn't have to be a headache, I mean, he did let us get water up there for a couple years. I s'pose we could be nice.

Probably won't have the water actually in the house until end of summer. We have to put water lines in the house first.

But - just having it accessible in our back yard is good enough for me!

They didn't come out and start yet. I am hoping tomorrow. He was here yesterday and leveled the truck, so truck's ready - I'm ready - let's get rock -n- rollin' already!!

We had desktop computers for the kids - all of which used dial up internet. Well, I could only get one kid online at a time, and it took so long, I was only getting 1 child completely through lessons each day.

So they switched out their desktops for mini-notebooks on a wireless connection. Meaning, they bounce of cell towers for their internet and have a better connection than I do. LOL This way, tho, all three kids can be working and not tying up my phone line.

I dunno what we're going to do first - I'm not sure we'll know what to do?

Probably fill up the water trough for the cows and all of the waterfowl ponds and poultry waterers!

It's a little past 7 am here...I'm up, I've got coffee on, gearing up to fix breakfast and get kiddos through morning lessons...

and waiting on the well guy.

I've waited patiently for 9 years. This week, I'm impatient.

He had told us that the actual pounding of the well may take up to 2 full weeks, depending on how much rock/limestone they hit. So I took him at 2 weeks literally - we're not 4 days behind schedule. C'mon buster!!!

Today I don't have to go anywhere - I don't think...and last night we had worked more on the indoor bantam pens. We plan to work on them more today, and hopefully finish them.

I had a mallard duckling hatch overnight in the incubator. Another one is trying to zip.

Last Saturday Becca and I had stopped and picked up the last three Black Sumatras for the barter I had made with the local. So I now have a beautiful flock of FIVE Sumatras ... three gals, one roo....will get pics later today....

One Sumatra hen came with 12 nearly developed eggs. She didn't take them back after the move, so they are in my incubator. Three of the 12 are pipped!

Well, it's eggs and bacon for breakfast!

Happy Thursday!

You can have the pool I'm currently using for a brooder. ;)

Sorry to spoil your stay-at-home plans by making me run a couple errands for me. :/ But, thank you! :bow

don't worry, kjm! I know which one's Jett! He's bigger than the new roo, and much prettier! The new roo is probably going to be sold....

I'm contemplating selling some of the newly hatched Sumatra chicks, too. I think I could raise them up to started pairs, and sell them in pairs.

I had 11 Sumatra out of 12 go into the 'bator. The 12th egg had candled clear. Of those, 2 are hatched and 4 more are pipped! So, 5 more to get rocking! 1 was cracked during the move, so not sure if it will make it.

I've also had two mallards hatch...

but hey, wait, look what's going on in my back yard!!!

Whoot!!!

I'm so stinking excited!!!!!!!!!!!!

'Course, the pounding has been going for about an hour now, so you can't see the end of the hammer thingymabob that's going in the growd anymore....not sure how far down that makes him, but whoohoo!!

I hope he hits water by Saturday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, as Becca said in her journal, I have Gracie here, in a nice big box. Gracie delivered a beautiful cream colored puppy around 10 am this morning, and I just missed the birth by a few minutes, as the puppy was still really wet. Sadly, Gracie was too gung ho about cleaning her new baby, and she clipped the umbilical cord completely off and the baby girl bled out.

I'm not sure if there's another pup or not, but the vets were both called, and both felt that if she wasn't showing distress, then just to keep an eye on her.

Right now, it doesn't seem like she's in labor, she just seems tired. She's laying on her blankets and sleeping.

Dace, I'll definitely be posting pics of the first splashtacular!! :D
