One of the guys that used to work with my dad clobbered a burglar with a cast iron skillet once. Got his mom to sit on him hovering the skillet over his face until he could get the cops there! Every time he would come around a little she'd pop him in the forehead with that skillet! It WILL work!!!

Edited for spelling

Wow loriahadams! Guess that was one crook who didn't get away!

I am happy to report, I got TWO...let's count that one, two...EGGS today!! From my OWN chickens!! One was a buff orpington egg, and not sure who she's been shaking up with as there are 4 roos in there...lol and the other egg was from one of my Mille hens! I know that egg is pure! Or well, at least it SHOULD be!

So I've held on to both eggs, and I'm going to put them in the 'bator with my welsummers to test fertility. :)

With that power outtage I was upset at first, but I told my husband we aren't opening the 'bator to turn those eggs until the power comes back on!

Power came on, and I gave the 'bator time to come back up to temps and then turned the eggs. I couldn't resist a quick candling of ONE egg...AND I HAVE VEINING! The 'bator temp got down to 80 and the humidity spiked to 60%, so I am doing some extra hard praying for these eggies!

This morning I decided to go ahead and candle...everyone...the egg I candled last night has obvious growth and a heartbeat!! I have veining in several of the other eggs as well, and a couple that look clear, but since we are only on day 4, and I think yesterday might set them back a day, nothing is being tossed until after day 7.

Sounds like you are having pretty good results with your eggs in the bator. You sound like a kid before Christmas shaking packages to see what's in them.

Glad your girls starting puttin' out for you. I have 19 hens and was getting 5-7 eggs a day. This past week it has been 7-10 per day. My EE laid one Tues. after a 2 1/2 drought.

Today's day 7 for the mutt eggs in my 'bator, I haven't candled for today, and haven't decided if I am going to or not??

BUT I am going to do something a teeny weeny bit risky, and hope I don't screw up my hatch!

We filed our taxes and went very UNFRUGAL and used rapid refund to get it NOW as there are a few things we were needing.

We went to TSC today and we bought a brand new LG Still air, two egg turners, and the fan to make the still air a forced air.

Ended up taking the fan unit out because it would NOT work! DH even double checked the directions and my handwork, and assured me I had installed it correctly. He tried working with it, and nothing. So, we assume the unit was damaged when we bought it. Taking it back tomorrow.

In the meantime, I'm happy using a still air, so I have the new 'bator warming up with the turner in it and waiting for the BBS Orp bantams from needmorechickens! and egg assortment from Gatekeeper to go in it.

Now, for my already in the 'bator eggs, I am really considering attempting to put the other turner in there, so I won't have to hand turn them the rest of this hatch....so wish me luck and I hope I don't screw this up and kill every chick in there!!

We also bought a wagon type thing that makes it easier for us to pull firewood to the house. We were using a wheelbarrow, but that wasn't working out too good. It's really a nice wagon. It will haul up to 600 pounds, can dump up to 400 pounds (oh yea, did I mention it lifts up and dumps like a wheelbarrow?), and we can hook it up to a riding lawnmower, if we had a riding lawnmower that is.

I also bought a few more feeders and waters for the chicken coops. I didn't seem to have enough, and now I can rotate out waterers when they freeze.

Our daughter needed some decent pants, so we bought her a couple pairs and found her a couple new shirts on clearance, too.

And then I did the most utterly unfrugal thing I've done yet.............

................I gave in and agreed to buying an XBox 360. We, until today, had no video game consoles etc in our house. BUT since DH is going to be having back surgery, and we aren't sure how long he may or may not be laid up, I figured he can have this. Yes, I totally rationalized that, but I must confess, that is what my husband and I do, we spoil each other. He puts up with a lot when it comes to me and my poulty, he can have this, frugal or not!

Really, it was a good day. We even splurged and took the kids out to eat *gasp* Something that rarely, if ever, happens here. Kids were thrilled!

Had yet another busy day! I barely had time to sit and find myself today.

Started the day with Social Security calling to do an over the phone interview with hubby for Disability. I had to find ALL his paperwork this morning before the call, and while I was doing that, he re-read the letter they sent and realized they had the wrong phone number. So I hurriedly called in 20 minutes before they were scheduled to call and gave them the correct number. Of course, had to hang up and they called back

Then I had to go to the bank, run to the library, and get DH's pain meds filled because he had not had any meds since last night and he was hurting. Was home by 11:30 am!

Got home, went out to check for eggs (got ONE) and re-fill waterers, put down some treats, etc. Turn around, 1200 pound bale of hay was being delivered! WOOT! So told the guy where we wanted it, he unloaded it, and we forked a bit to the goats. My chickens went NUTS! No sooner was the bale OFF the truck, but the chickens were on it and in it eating all the seed pods they could find! They were soooooooo stinking happy! They've been singing and struttin' all day! LOL

So Help Me Grow came today to talk with me about the baby and check on his development. Our home service coordinator is wonderful, and she always does a craft with the kids, and we get a free children's book!

So she left and we had to go get DH's handicap plaque for the car. He was thrilled (not). Filled all our large water containers to haul home, and stopped at the feedstore. I picked up the ferret food I was needing, flock raiser, and black sunflower seeds to add to the chickerdoodles food mix.

Came home, gave them a bit of layer with the sunflower seeds, and was rewarded with serenading hens. LOL

Oh and I saw my Mille Fleur Roo, Cricket, mating with Ruth and Elizabeth (mille fleur girls) so :fl they start laying soon!
