Glad to hear you guys made it through, too! Kids bus driver/ teacher lost his home last night. Dh said it was pretty bad. He didn't get home until nearly one in the morning and is planning on leaving this morning pretty soon to finish helping clear the roads.

Tornadoes can be vicious. I was really watching for one to pop up the other night we went from about 78 humid degrees to about 58 in a matter of a few minutes! The wind was fierce, but no twisting. Glad you are all safe!

Oh that's terrible! I am so glad you & yours are safe. We had some more bad weather this weekend too, thankfully no real damage. It was probably part of the same system that hit you guys.

I hate this season...

:hugs

I think it was the same system. I keep my NOAA weather radio out everytime it looks kinda cloudy this time of year. I am seriously considering moving out of this area whether dh wants to come or not!!! In the last three years we have had more natural disasters than I have ever seen in the other 12 years I have lived here. Van buren county has been on the disaster list repeatedly for tornados, floods, and so on. This talks about 2008....

CLINTON On five separate occasions last year, Van Buren County was declared a federal disaster area.

Each declaration, recommended by Gov. Mike Beebe and then signed by President George W. Bush, was for repairing damage from a natural disaster, including two tornadoes, flooding and severe storms one with large hail.

But natural disasters, which caused millions of dollars in damage to the area and killed six people, werent the only kind of hardship the county suffered in 2008. The regions economy was further shaken in October when its largest employer, Pilgrims Pride Corp. in Clinton, closed, leaving 325 people unemployed

I have lived here since I was nine and don't ever remember it ever being declared a disaster area before and then the following year we had excessive rains which broke previous records by several inches and also the ice storm. I know we have always had tornados, but they just seem to be getting worse or I am getting a little more paranoid.

I really think the weather around our country is changing. We are seeing different things in different areas that's just not the norm. The jet stream has really shifted this year. Global warming? Who knows. but it's just one more reason to be prepared and have a plan. I am happy you guys are ok.

take care, gina

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean that they aren't out to get you. :D From the reading that I have been doing, there are actually fewer tornadoes overall during the last few years. However, they tend to come in cycles and their area of occurrence shifts a bit (La Nina/El Nino). In the last few years, the pattern has shifted slightly to the east, bring more into the lower Mississippi valley. Hopefully (for us, anyway), the pattern will shift back to the west before long.

Being a National Weather Service Skywarn weather spotter and working with the local Emergency Management Office, I try to keep up on weather trends for our area. The last few years have been very busy indeed.

:hit I am leaving for the weekend. We leave in the morning and go to S Louisiana to visit dh's parents. Love them to death, but I really wish they'd come here instead. I am worried about my rabbits, chickens, goat and garden! Someone will take care of the animals for us and watch the place, but I just know something is going to go wrong either here or on the trip. It is 8 hours to where they live and we have not ever made the trip that something didn't go wrong. We almost had to cancel due to a bank error that took all our fund out of our account and then overdrafted us! We got it straightened out though after several phone calls and visits to the main branch! In the end they gave us our money back and took off all the overdraft fees thank goodness! I am taking a couple of roo's to fil and he is sending me some rir/ee cross hens! We also planning on hitting a couple of auctions and flea markets while we are there. Hopefully it will turn out to be a fun trip.

okay you guys, I need prayers. Dh and I are in LA visiting his parents and DH really misses living in this area where he grew up and knows everyone. We have nothing left holding us in AR since my parents died and it would be nice to have someone to spend the holidays with. His dad is in bad health and our kids have only met him a few times. We found a place for sale right up the road for a good price and owner financed. We owe on our car and still paying on a loan for our 10 acres, so I am not sure we will qualify for financing. I need you guys to pray that if we are meant to move here that it will work out.
