GO compacts!

I am a pony person myself. Even though I am a big 5'9" sort of gal and have owned and shown many fine big horses, I am still most partial to the pony.

We had a 36 inch tall Shetland for years that could out work almost any regular size riding horse. People have no idea the amount of work a pony or donkey can accomplish while using a third the pasture and resources of a horse. We have used ponies to plow our garden, haul timber, pull stumps and pack loads, in addition to providing hours of riding pleasure. Hitch a pony to a well balanced two wheeled cart and you have a work truck extraordinaire. ;) Horse power in use.

Congrats on the new donkey!

He was delivered today!!!! :bun He is soo sweet. I love donkeys! One of my favorite passages in the bible is Numbers 22:21. Anyway, I harnessed him and drove him around the yard without a cart to see how he did. He stood still and calm the entire time I was harnessing him and seemed familiar with the entire process. He was a little slow to respond to turns and stopping, but was calm and laid back. He is 7 according to his coggins papers, but his teeth look older to me, but he is definately NOT ancient. Unfortunately he has a fat roll on his neck and the beginnings of a fat lump on his back. I HATE those. They are unsightly and never go away. He doesn't look foundered though. His withers hit me about chest high and he looks almost identical to the one I had as a child. There were two things that stood out that worried me though. One was that his coggins was from a sale barn auction. I try NOT to get anything that comes from an auction. The other was that the harness that came with him was put together wrong and didn't even come close to fitting him. It was a mini harness and he requires a cob size. We do have one though and that is what I put on him to try him out. I think we'll be buddies. I had him in the yard at first and he followed me around like a puppy.

Legend of how the donkey got it's cross.

The story is told that the donkey that had been Jesus' mount on Palm Sunday, came to the hill of Calvary.

Seeing the tragic event taking place, he wished with all his heart that he had been able to carry the cross for Jesus, as he was the proper one to carry heavy burdens.

Ashamed of what was happening, the donkey turned his back on the sight, but would not leave for he wished to stay until all was over because of his love for Jesus.

In reward for the loyal and humble love of the little donkey, the Lord cast the shadow of the cross to fall across his back and left it there for the donkey to carry forever more as a sign that the love of God, no matter how humble, carries a reward for all us to see.

Oh and dh finally got a good pickup. Extended cab 4 door '05 4x4 F-150 Sales tax paid, bumper to bumper 2 year warranty and gap insurance for $400 month. He is proud of it.

And I prefer to buy from an auction! Most of the horse dealers I know in the area will go and buy a horse from auction, then turn around and sell it for much more. I prefer to skip the middle man!

I don't just because I am afraid of disease. I always have the fear that it was at the auction because it was sick or nutty.

Might have been true years ago, but at least in this area, you're seeing more and more horses at auction because the owner can simply no longer afford to keep them. They've tried selling the horse and/or giving the horse away, but w/no luck. So, they end up taking the horse to auction. I got Licorice from New Holland auction, in PA 4.5 years ago. RU has gotten several horses from there over the years. Maybe we've just been lucky, but we've never gotten a sick one, or a crazy one.

Things are the same around here. Horses are going for almost nothing. I haven't been to an auction in 6 or 7 years though.
Dh may be about to lose his job. His boss fired one of dh's friends and asked dh what he thought of it. Dh told him that he was sorry it happened. It was almost as if boss was testing the waters with dh. The thing is that dh's friend hadn't done anything to get fired. It was a personal issue. His wife also worked there on days and when she came in he fired her too. She was still probationary since she had just started so he didn't need an excuse. They had five kids. Now he has an attitude whenever talking to dh since dh and his friend that got fired had known each other since they were kids and boss knows it. I guess things like that happen in a small town where everybody knows each other and most are related. Things get personal. The thing is dh is NOT one to get involved in any personal affairs. He works hard, doesn't call in even when he is sick, but this guy is just pushing him. Dh(and his coworkers) only gets one day off a week, works 12 or more hours a day and the boss told everyone that there wouldn't be a day off this week. They were just too busy according to him. Some big new jobs this week. So he will be working 12 days straight before he gets a day off. Without fail they call him in on his day off every week anyway. The last 2 times he has told them no. He and another coworker went together putting in applications after work this morning. I am hoping and praying that he will find a job where he will be able to get Sundays off so he can go to church with us and that the Lord will use this to His advantage to bring us all closer to Him.

So sorry your hubby and the rest of you have to deal with this situation. Too bad that hard work and loyalty are not rewarded like they should be. :(
