I honestly cannot do any worse than the school. He is making straight F's. He has basically just given up trying. This will be his second time being held back due to his reading. It affects every subject. They are making NO attempt to help him. They gave him a reading color strip and that was it. We help him at home, but most of his work is classwork and we have no control over that. I feel like I am being ignored by them everytime I ask for help. Or I get some BS excuse about why he can't be tested. I was told everything from there is no test to it is not accurate. You would think they would want him tested to help with their funding, but I get brushed off everytime I mention anything to do with it. They gave him a tutor once a week. Other than that they seem content to just let him fail.
My DD has been diagnosed with A.D.D. and I believe she is dyslexic(her daddy is too) as well. We can't get help for her either, it seems nobody gives a flip as long as she behaves in school. Well, we homeschooled her for 3 years and it is the BEST thing we ever did for her. She will be homeschooled again next year as well. We simply could not afford it this year and hergrades have declined...not bad, but they have gone down enough to be noticeable. she has gone from A's to C's again in subjects she was doing well in homeschooling her.

I just wanted to encourage you to give it a try. Study dyslexia and learn how to help him NOW so that you are prepared once you get him home. It'll be less stress for both of you. You and he can do this!!

Sorry about all the negativity going on in your life right now..I truly hope and pray things get better for you and your family soon!!! :hugs

We're here for ya ;)

A phonics based reading program is the one for you. It works. I am not going to recommend a certain one because there are a number out there.

It also helps to work multiple learning avenues at the same time. :) Like writing = kinetic, aloud = verbal/auditory, plus visual. For example tracing a letter with the fingertip, while looking at the letter, while saying the sound aloud.

Dyslexics tend to think in pictures instead of words like most of us do. That astounded me when I first learned it. I have a sort of self talk going on in my head when I am thinking. Hubby watches a silent movie of his thoughts. A huge difference in how you learn things, especially language based things like reading.

Don't sweat those F's either. Once you have him out of the school put the majority of effort in those reading skills. About 80 percent of the problem in other topics will surely be reading based.

:hugs one for you and :hugs one for the kiddo.

Momma goat went into labor this afternoon during the storm. She had triplets, the first was a brown little girl who is doing good, the second was a black and silver spotted little boy and the last was a black and silver spotted little girl. The second one was misrepresented and by the time I realized that something was wrong the momma was weak and had quit pushing. The two black and silver kids were born dead. I had to push and turn the second one to position it to be born. I was on the phone with a vet for over an hour to do this. It was me and 10yr old ds trying to help her birth. He talked to the vet and told me what to do It's head was back, and it's legs were completely out. I did manage to get some colostrum for the little girl. :hit :hit :hit

As of right now-no she is not. Ds just went and checked her and she was gone. I think she was in labor for too long and it was too much stress on her having the baby turned. She was an older doe. I don't know what happened, but I know I am heartbroken.

I looked up some sites on dyslexia and found a lot on homeschooling a dyslexic. Wanna-That is exactly the situation with ds. He is student of the month at least once every year, and in conduct he brings home straight 100's and that is all they care about.

:hugs So sorry to hear about your goats.

I have a book if I can find it that may have some stuff you can use to help your son. If I can find it, I'll see what it says.

I found the book! It's called the Learning Connection. If you'd like to read it, PM me w/your address, and I'll mail it to you. Then, you can either keep it, mail it back, or pass it on to someone else.

If you are able and willing, I would contact the your state's board of education. Explain to them the situation and what hasn't been done. Most states have a separate division to deal with alternative learning - find out who is charge of that and call them. With a little internet research, I'm sure you can find an advocacy group that can help, too.

Public schools are becoming warehouses, I know. :fl for you
