Today the neighbors great grandson came over. He and ds are the same age and were friends in school. While he was over he told ds that our donkey was in his great grandmas yard eating her flowers yesterday and that his great grandma shooed him and he ran and got back in his pen. Now this is the same neighbor that 2 years ago threatened to call the police over 3 of my chickens getting in her yard. I was outside most of yesterday morning waiting on our horsetrailer to be returned and then most of the rest of the day checking on the new mule who wasn't getting along well with the donkey. I had to separate them right about dark because I was worried about leaving them together unsupervised overnight. I also did a fence check yesterday prior to the mule going in since I didn't know if the was a fence tester or not. The fence was good all the way around. I did another fence check today after hearing that our donkey was supposedly in her yard and still found nothing. There is a dirt road between our houses so I also checked it for hoofprints. Still nothing. I may not particularly like my neighbor, but I never thought of her or her great grandson as people who would lie about something like that. I just don't know what to think. People down the dirt road have a couple of donkeys I think. Maybe it was one of theirs that she thought was ours?

It's possible. I got a call a couple of years ago that there were horses out at the farm. And, RU was away. I got there, all of our horses were in. It was someone elses horses.

Can you just ask her? Just say you were concerned that she wasn't being bothered with your animals and that you wanted to make sure everything was okay?

I'm going to ask her tomorrow. I hate doing that because she us almost completely deaf and not exactly the friendliest person on a good day. So I always try to avoid her if possible. After the chicken incident 2 years ago I brought her a bunch of brand new towels, wash and hand cloths and bathmats that I had gotten from the resort I worked for. The had ordered the wrong ones and couldn't send them back because they had already cut the tags off so I asked if I could have some and they agreed. I brought her some since she does charity. I thought maybe she knew someone who could use them. She was quite rude. Like I had brought her some old rags that I was just trying to get rid of. Really hurt my feelings. So going over to see her is not something I really want to do, especially if it concerns animals of any kind I already know I will get an earful whether the donkey was over there or not!

There has been a black cat that acted funny hanging around the house. I saw it walking across the yard over by the swimming pool. It walked right by the dogs. Of course I went to see what was wrong with it because even from a distance I could see swelling and scabs on it's head. It walked almost into the fence. I got up to it and I guess it must have heard or seen me because it tried to run, but couldn't get through the fence. It ran into a corner and laid down and looked at me with one eye gone and the whole area nasty and infected looking and hissed. Totally freaked me out. I imagined rabies and other unnamed horrible diseases and I ran back. The cat took advantage and made it's escape. I kicked myself for letting a suffering animal get away. So we went on a family cat hunt armed with fishing nets and a live trap. We finally caught the poor thing. It is so weak. Even weak it took a whole family 30 minutes to catch it in a fairly small area. Since it is Sunday night I guess it will have to wait for morning to see if I can get it some help. I have it in the live trap with food and water. We don't have any animal hospitals anywhere around this area. My heart breaks for this poor cat. The animal shelter will be open in the morning. I honestly can't afford to pay for a stray cats medical bills even though I wish I could. It is a really pretty longhaired Manx and I get the feeling that it was hissing more out of fear than actual wildness. It was pretty calm after we caught it and gladly ate the catfood I gave it. I know it sounds stupid but y'all please pray for this poor cat and that the animal shelter will be able to save it and find it a good home.

I regularly pray for animals. It is not silly at all.

Thank you for caring enough to catch the poor thing. To me it sounds like it has a bad abscess probably from fighting with other cats. I am a cat rescuer and it does my heart good that you are helping this one. Our animal shelter here will felv/fiv test, spay/neuter, vaccinate, and treat wounds for free on feral cats if you will take them back and re-release them. Maybe they will do something like that. My prayers are on their way.

I'm praying too, not silly to ask at all. I pray about animals every day. You offered some mercy and comfort when the animal needed it, no matter what happens, that means something.

For a god that loves even the smallest sparrow, I think it would be wrong to NOT pray for animals.

I shall think hopeful thoughts for the kitty.

Edit... should have read all through... farmfresh had the same thought!

I took the cat to the animal shelter this morning. It has to be put down.:(. I have to go back and pick up my cage tomorrow. They've had several come in in that condition and they just put them down. She said that the infection travels to the brain. The poor cat was so weak it could barely stand this morning.
