Shingles! I had them 2 years ago and they manifested in the same area and intensity as yours. I went to the emergency room.
My meds were different. I got a painkiller that I quit after one dose because it made me feel worse with some weird mental stuff.
Valtrex, yes, had that. I quit that after 2 days and made a trip to my ND who gave me a detox diet and some holistic stuff, a refresher on breathing and I felt better the next day.

It did take about 2 months for the tingly numbness to retreat. It took a year before I noticed no more shingles after-sensations.

I did read that the shingles vaccination won't work if you have had shingles because you now have the same antibodies the vaccine would provide. I hope that translates into not getting them again!
I personally was quite surprised at the amount and intensity of pain that accompanies shingles. The literature doesn't quite convey that.
I hope you feel better soon!

Sorry about the shingles. :hugs I had them while in grad school in my mid-20's. Try to stay on the meds. I hear they help prevent post-herpetic neuralgia (a recurrence). I have a bit of the neuralgia. My back still gets prickly and sore at times. I know it's my sign to step back from life and chill for a little while.

I do need to figure out how to 'chill', the stress in my life has really taken over. I'm way too hard on myself, too. I need to get my diet under control and stop kidding myself that I'm taking good care of myself, I'm not. There is so much wrong right now with the economy, my loss of clients, my husband's lack of work, the worry about bills piling up, I'm just overwhelmed, and now it's come down to my immune system breaking down. Have to get things under control, or should I say, I have to stop trying to control what I can't.

Marginally better. The nerve tingling is calming down, the headache is mostly gone, no fever, but my neck is still stiff, and the blisters, while going down a bit, are still painful. This is a nasty little outburst, but I can feel it getting better.

How are your bees doing?

One of my mom's hives has a new queen. Not sure what happened to the original queen. They apparantly set the hives too close together, and most of the bees from one moved to the other. They have one strong hive and one weak hive.

She finally found a bee mentor, though. He came out and showed her the new queen in the weaker hive, gave her some advice on proper feeding, helped her with the hives for a day, which relieved her, and assured her that in 3 weeks the weaker of the two hives should be thriving.

I'm excited for my mom's hives, because later when they are ready to have a hive move out, she said she'd give me bees to start my own hives. :celebrate I told her mentor, "Teach her well, because she's going to teach me!"

Oh Ann, so sorry to hear you have the shingles. It was this past October or Novemeber when I had mine. Dac was making me laugh about my roof disease. The pain involved is still fresh in my mind and occasionally I still get a tingle when I get stressed.

Hope you get better soon. There is noting fun at all about this particular disease.

My Dr told me that if you have shingles once you are prone to get them again. What fun that is to look forward to.

Take care and rest.

They are doing ok, we once again lost a package right off, and one of the nucs up in Maine lost its queen, but we've got eight strong colonies right now.

Bee mentors are worth their weight in gold, you have to have one when you're getting started!

That's excellent, Aly, you'll enjoy harvesting your own honey, believe me!

Oh, no, don't tell me that! Actually most people I've talked to who have had them have never had them again, that's what I'm counting on!

The doctor said it was good I went in early, hopefully the meds will knock it back quickly (they're already not as raised and swollen) and I'm planning on a major overhaul of my diet and behavior - I can't keep kidding myself, I am not getting any younger, and I need to start taking care of #1 first before I can take care of the rest of them!!

Ok - pretend I did not tell you that. Besides I am wrong more often than I'm right most of the time anyway.

Besides I like your idea of NEVER AGAIN. One thing is for sure. If you get stressed and start to feel the twinges like I do it won't take you long to remember that "take care of #1 first".
