Actually we like Led Zepplin, so that one makes me smile. They are not our special fave band though and hubby and I have different favorite bands (back when it mattered and I could hear music!) so that would lead to long discussions and having to fight down names like Punk Rock Dog Farm and Ozzy Doggy Ranch.
Looks like I'm going to stop working at the end of the year. I think I will qualify for employment, I might actually get "fired for medical reasons" but in a friendly way, I would be actually requesting it. I'm still checking out the legality of whether I'd qualify, but I think I would. If anyone knows unemployment law, please chime in. But I can't do the job anymore because of medical reasons.
This would not be a financial boon by any means, but at least I wouldn't have to work while I feel so sick and I'd have a lot more time for my farm. We would have to live really cheap, so I'll need all you guys more than ever. It looks like I'll only qualify for the minimum amount and that will leave us mighty short indeed. I think we will need to eat all the show bunnies we produce! And all the chickens I can hatch, too. And the duck......we might need to try deer and racoon as well. How does coyote taste?
I think I will still have some egg customers at my work however and today one of the doctors said she would be interested in buying rabbit meat and a turkey! She buys my eggs currently and always doesn't have the right change and pays me way extra. She is really neat....I have been using her as my vet, too, so we get along well. She knows I'm supporting eight rescues who are now aging and isn't asking me for every test in the world and keeps all the costs down for me when they need stuff. I don't know that I'll really be able to afford the prices at my current work for long however, I think I've said before, I work for kind of the Cadillac of vet offices around here. Or I guess I do for the moment but only till the end of the year.
I'm both relieved and sad so I don't know whether to put a big smiley face or cry . I'm glad I will be home with my farm and my animals full time but I sure wish it wasn't because I'm so sick. But I think I will feel better without the strain of driving down the hill and worrying about getting a vertigo attack on dead man's curve. Sometimes it isn't about choices and there is only one way to go. That is how I have been feeling for awhile now.
I hope this will help w/your MD. It is no fun at all to get a vertigo attack when driving, or when you're out someplace. I know when I get a bad one, the only place I want to be is in my bed!
Forgive, I'm tired, ( processed 20 chickens and roos today) so I haven't read all the posts, but what is the meaning of Dunegan? cuz... I was thinking of just changing it to Dun Egan. Which is how I would have pronounded it anyways.
Dunegan is simply the real name of the mountain we live on. It is not a well known mountain because we live in the shade of a ....er....rather well known mountain that dwarfs Dunegan....called Mt. Saint Helen's.
Yes, that one, the volcano.
Yes, volcano could be in the farm name. We don't have a view of the big mountain though.
a little stringy.. jut kidding. i was gonna say "tastes like chicken!" ha!
so
dont hesitate to call the unemployment folks. really. you might sit on hold for like a million years. some of your stress is in the "not knowing" so go and find out so you can know, right?
or you could just talk to your employer. its been a while but i BELIEVE that if you get "laid of" like regular laid off..not medical.... and your employer doesnt "challenge it" then you get UI.
state is wa is pretty darn good. i choked when i heard how much the high end goes.. especially compared to here.
anyway - maybe thats a better way for you/employer to approach it - just laid off. and remember that your employer DOESNT pay the UI....you've paid into it all these years. might as well get some out. and they dont even need a reason and they can replace you later on.
i know this is a stressful time for you.
but - remember that you are spending a lot of money to GO to work.. if that helps to reframe this. and since you are home you can get a lot more done. we cant believe how much money we dont spend. even the little bit of money you dont spend on gas, flyin down the road in your subaru, will make a difference.
you'll focus your efforts on making meals, being more efficient, making snacks instead of stopping as you are driving all over, etc. and you'll be better at saving gas b/c you can plan what you are doing and where you are going. we never leave the property unless we are making a couple of stops.
and remember - being "farm poor" is way better than being just poor. and its kinda fun - i think its the new fashion
;-)
you'll have more time to make new friends and tap into the communicity of "not working" - and they tend to help each other instead of being judgemental.
once you get your goaties milking, the hens cranking, and get some meat out there growing you'll save even more - especially with the dogs.
if anything you'll need to really use your smarts to be more efficient and more effective. and you can do it at your own pace.
you're gonna be just fine, baby. this is your chance - take the leap.
ps and folks pay a lot of money for pet/farm sitters when you want to start your own business
