Here are a few of the reasons people gave me dogs or gave up the dog I got:
1) Intact dog humps the other dogs (has happened twice)
How about if someone lets their altered male be alpha over them by letting it hump their leg, or if they are sitting at ground level and said dog gives them a "hug" or just has radar lock on said person? Then the person just complained all the time because of the dog's behavior??? Then that person was mad at me because I wouldn't take any of the dog's crap. Looking back it almost seems like this dog was more a bully than an alpha. It seemed like he only picked on beings he knew would back down. Scarlett was an alpha female (she even hiked her leg when she peed sometimes), but she did not seek out to be in charge. In her house, any visiting dogs got a look basically stating that the couch belongs to me, go lay somewhere else. Or, if we were in another dog's house and the human did not object, she would relax in an unoccupied piece of furniture. If the dog in charge of the house wanted the piece of furniture she was on, she didn't willingly give it up, we made her give it up. And she really didn't put up a fuss. But if a male dog got fresh with her, believe me, she put up a fuss. She once sent a german shepherd running with his tale between his legs and made a fresh rescued (true rescue) male greyhound hide behind his foster dad  I miss that girl:(

Dogs are dogs and you have to hope that you can actually understand them and they understand you.

Scarlett sounds like she was a great dog!

My Lila has a very strong prey drive. But it stops in it's tracks the moment she catches the prey  She has no kill instinct and will just stand there wondering if the thing she caught will play with her. Inevitably, she drops it and it takes off and she looks so sad.
She also has a mothering instinct. I'm more worried that any babies will drown in her drool than from a bite  She loses interest as soon as they show signs of growing up. She nearly came out of her skin when we brought our daughter home from the hospital. Every time Joy cried, that dog leaped across the room to check on her
Here she is being broody with the ducklings

G'mornin' to y'all! I love that picture Java. Some dogs like to "mother" things...don't they? I had a male dog that liked to "father" things once too.

I would be afraid to let my dogs in with the ducklings. I guess I should give (some of them) more credit. We have noted that our dog that mothers everything (Bindi Jo) has absolutely NO prey drive. She is 100 percent focused on Hubby most of the time. If he has a sore or a wound, she wants to lick it....gross! She also doesn't like me to wear cosmetics and tries to lick them off!

So Ellie made it through her surgery yesterday, Yay! So she and Hanna will be coming here today. We go down and get them. I'm also running errands down the hill. I have their pictures....

Ellie is the one with the black nose...they call that "red wheaten". Hanna has the lighter nose, we call those "liver noses". Hanna is the one with separation anxiety and Ellie had the surgery, she also has a lick granuloma and possibly allergies.

There is already a person interested in adopting two ridgebacks, so it is possible they won't have to be parted. My mission will be to discover how they would be best. Some dogs that owners feel are bonded are actually better off without the other dog. Other times, dogs are truly buddies and pals and parting them is very hard for them. But usually if they can be with other dogs they are fine being without their best friend.

So anyway, we get them today.

Did you see my goat boobie pics, OFG?

Have a good Friday everyone....

Morning! I may have missed it, but why were you being criticized for breeding Ginger? If you wanted to do it for milk, why not? Seeing my animals/pets give birth (or hatch!) is still one of the most amazing things ever. As long as the owner is taking full responsibility and the animal is in good health I don't see why anyone wouldn't want to see this wonderful part of life.

It was a different forum, not here.....

My goal is just a little milk, not to establish the new and better line of mini-nubians. Mine are not even full mini nubians. I think the folks critiquing my style were more show breeders.

I have read that with a FF I should not expect too much milk though. I sure hope I can get at least 12 oz for my goats milk soap recipe. I'd also like to collect and freeze some colostrum but we'll see how well they let me do that. As far as milk goes, that is my goal for this year.

You'll hopefully get milk. I have found with BYC and BYH you dont know anything unless you spend the $$$ on your animals......
