She turned one this month.

This is almost exactly how my daughter looked at that age. She actually looks like hubby's side of the family, not mine.

But my sister thinks she should enter her in pretty baby contests.

Well it seems like the screenshow of photos on my thread has petered out so it is time to update my journal regarding Dizzy Dog Ranch and our happenings.

I just finished reading the Clan of the Cave Bear series....all of it....and even the first three chapters of the new book. I'm ready to go out and bring down animals with my sling and wolf while I start fires with rocks and play doctor with weeds from around the farm. Actually I do have a renewed interest in tanning hides and enjoyed especially re-reading the passages about making soap. Reading it all straight in a row, a lot more of the books seem redundant, but I really enjoyed them. I believe I have now read book one and two about five times each. The first book was by far the best. But I'm ready for the last installment of Ayla.

Chickens are laying.....tons! One day I got 17 and I have 18 hens. I sent eggs down the hill with Hubby today to Nordic Goddess to deliver to various people for me. I had fun arranging them by color, I get four colors now, brown, buff, white and green. It makes a nice assortment. All the "chicks" are laying now so I suppose I have to call them something else now. I accidentely made a RIR/BO cross and I actually like her best. She is huge and lays huge eggs every day. Every single day (her color is unique). I think I will hatch some more like her, she is gorgeous. I guess it is "hybrid vigor?"

The ducks are not laying but seem fine. I think they are just thinking it is too cold (which it is) and there isn't enough light (which there isn't). They are friendlier since I've been home and hand feeding them every day.

We have two foster dogs....it has been nice feeling useful that way again. Sure like the new group. Sure like these dogs. Sure like rescue. These two are younger clones of Dee Dee, my ridgeback. It is like having three of her.

The rabbits are doing awesome. Blackbird sent me his copy of Standard of Perfection for Rabbits and Cavies, wasn't that sweet of him? One of the four isn't eating as well and she seems to be shedding a little more so I'm a little concerned about her. I'll have to keep a close eye on her, she is the "show" one. I think she isn't as happy as the other three and I'm not sure why.

The goats are my big deal at the moment. No changes in their girl parts but they have little udders and huge tummies and bottomless pits for appetites. Hubby moved my kidding stall down into the right area over the weekend and we have it all ready. We also got their regular stall all mucked out and layed down fresh bedding there too. Last year we waited until spring but this year we wanted things extra clean. Also wanted it drier for the goat hooves, they seemed really ragged the last time I clipped their hooves. I think things have been too damp.

I've been reading the Bible and mostly listening in on what everyone says on BB's Bible study thread here. But it is giving me a lot of food for thought. I just haven't had time for some of these thoughts before and this is good for me. Instead of rushing around constantly, I've actually had time to contemplate things.

Right now we are having a rare moment of bright clear sunshine, not a cloud in the sky. Cold and crisp. Everything was frozen this morning but no slipping around because for once it did not rain overnight. Considering what much of the country is seeing, the warmth streaming in my window seems like a miracle.

I hope this weather slides right across the country and gives everyone else a respite, too.

Did y'all read my Stray Cats Song on OFG's thread? I had fun playing around with that this morning.

I'll have to take a picture of mine. She is a pretty thing. I was afraid she was a cockerel when she was a chick because of being so pretty.

:frow Sounds like things are good in your neck of the woods. Love your songs, too funny!
Are you excited for bouncing baby kids? :ya I think our weather is going to settle down for a bit now that this ridiculous ice has passed :fl

I found a hilarious dog story for all the dog lovers. It's about a simple minded dog  http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/11/dogs-dont-understand-basic-concepts.html
I think I'm going to have to spend a whole lotta time reading that blog now. Funny stuff.

I had fun composing The Slim Tailed Strut, there was plenty of subject matter....I could have probably gone on a couple more verses. Hubby and I have always had fun by changing the lyrics of songs. We sing terrible, but we think we are funny. I can't even tell if I'm on tune anymore, but we like to take lyrics of songs we know and turn them into a way to insult each other and then sing it badly and loud. But give me a song I know and an idea an I can change the lyrics into a song about YOU. Our favorite songs are TV jingles and theme songs to shows.

So I'm counting down the days to kidding now.....Molly could be due in one week, but I witnessed Ginger getting bred three days later so I'm starting with 10...............

Tomorrow is 9.............

They think of nothing except food. Molly has parked herself at the hay feeder and pretty much doesn't leave its side. It is her new FRIEND. I think the kids are running out of space in there though because she can't eat much at a time anymore, especially the grain.

Our wether is getting FAT with all this hay, he pretty much eats constantly too, right along with the girls.

I think that every time I look out the window at the girls, they are looking IN the window at me, as if to say, "Whatcha got for me? Treats?"

But I remember being pregnant and waking up in the middle of the night finding myself standing in front of the refridgerator, grabbing something fattening before I even woke up. I can relate.

I have to admit, I keep laughing to myself about this part:

Ill keep my tail shaved while the lady cats cry,
"Nicholas the hunk, youre a slim tailed guy."
I wish I could be as carefree and wild,
but I got cat class and I got cat style.

:gig

I think that song is funny anyway.
