Do you have a word program on your new little computer? Sometimes I find typing it out there, so I can save as I go, works better. Then when done you can just cut and paste. Especially if your working on a long story.

I used to sit on my roof when I was a kid. A much different view of the things around us.

It has microsoft office but it was asking me to go online to register, and i had no signal. I usually just do a shift/delete, shift/insert every so often to keep stuff saved. Oh well, the whole point of the story i was writing, was about learning to live with disappointment and making compromises. Lesson learned. Save your work. The same thing happened to me back in 1996. I was writing a story for advanced creative writing class at the university using Windows '95. Suddenly, a message popped up: "this program has performed an illegal operation, and will shut down.":barnie I lost about five hours of work. I got so furious that i threw it off the apartment balcony, smashing it on the pavement below. It was ten years before i bought another computer. They have improved a great deal.

I learned on Windows 95 and never went online till 1999.
Sorry your post went bye-bye after all that work. I type almost everything into notepad 1st now, then paste it in when I'm ready. Lost too many messages before that. I remember the (bad) old days of having AOL for internet provider. We called it A -oh- H@!! since it booted us off so many times.

As a transcriptionist, that phrase "you have performed an illegal operation" which appeared regularly despite not breaking any laws, I quickly learned I would lose a lot of work. So I formed a habit which I still have, which is when you begin a document, always start as your first task, naming the file. Then periodically during your typing, just hit Ctrl + S every now and then and your work is saved. Nowadays computers auto-save a lot more, but I still name my files and Ctrl + S quite often. I worked hard to learn all the control keys for speed and they come in real handy.

Oh, that really stinks, losing four hours of story!

You do have to actually buy MS office things like Word, but most computers come with free versions of MS Works- that has a word processor and other stuff I don't use. I use Works. Word just isn't necessary for me to buy.

Well, my connection has been pretty good for the last 24 hours or so. Im hoping i'll get inspired to write a story tonight. Ive been in out of SS all day. It's so nice having this low power netbook. I don't have to worry about running down my solar batteries, and can surf the web as long as i want.
Today im watering the garden, washing clothes, and dishes, which is more than i did yesterday. I saved cucumber, squash, and pepper seeds, and i think i'll try to get some more blackberry and dewberry plants in the ground. Im close to a hundred plants now of Rubus berries. If the raspberries do well this year, im looking forward to propagating a bunch of them next spring. Ive stopped prop on the blackberries because i think i have more than enough of them (about seventy plants!) The good thing is that they produce well even in the shade, which i have plenty of here in my suburban forest garden. I really need to crank up the leaf shredder so i can mulch the perma beds in the front garden, but i dread the dust and bending over the shredder hurts my back.
I've decided to keep a food journal here, because ive been slowly losing weight over the last few months, since i adopted a no-processed food diet. Im only eating whole foods or meals that i cook myself. I seem to get sick every time i eat out, and have found only two restaurants that have what i call gourmet food. It aint New Orleans up here! Nothing but bland meat and potatoes.

Breakfast: two handfuls of cherry tomatoes, and one medium cucumber. I ate them right off the vines, still warm from the sun, no salt.

Lunch: yellow squash and onions, sauteed in olive oil, sprinkled with sea salt. A multivitamin pill, a tsp of turmeric powder, 1/8 teaspoon of powdered kelp, and a big glass of water to chase it all down.

Evening snack: we'll see...

Late night meal: havent decided yet
