I like cabbage, but that is the first cabbage I have ever called beautiful. Your garden is doing great! Those butternut squash are gonna be yummy.
My garden needs weeded again and it's sooooo hot. I should have used more mulch this time.

If you're healthy- age doesn't mean that much. I never turned 40. I turned 37 ... 38 ... 39 ... 27 again ... 27 again ... 27 again, then 43. Skipped the dumb jokes about "the big 40".
Young guys were after me sometimes, but I didn't mind. ;) Then I found hubby later and settled down.

Hope your kitty comes out of hiding soon. They are so nice to snuggle with.

DL, she just came out as i was reading your post. The dog is with me, bedded down on the screen porch, laptop all charged up with solar power. I've resorted to sleeping on the screened porch, because it stays too hot inside these days. I saw on the news that it's even hotter up in the midwest. I wonder how FF, and OFG are taking this heat.
Monkeygirl and the Fat Man (named after the character in The Maltese Falcon) are play fighting like two overgrown kittens. It is so hilarious. One of these days i have to film them and put it up on youtube. It'll get a billion hits.

As for me ... a day at a time! Right now at almost 8 PM it is 94 with a heat index of 104! Glad it finally cooled off today.

I open up the house at night and try to pull in as much cool air as possible, venting it out of our roof window on the second floor, then shut it up, storm windows and all, for the day. We have solar shading on the exterior of all sun gaining windows, decent insulation in the walls and ceiling and keep the air moving with ceiling fans and fans at floor level. For the most part the main house has only been around 86 or 87 during the day while it is at or near 100 outside.

We also have our "dog room" - our family room, which used to be my son's bedroom. It is insulated on ALL of the walls, interior and exterior. That is the room where the air conditioner is ... and also TV, computer, dogs and US! We even have a futon for night time!

TH, i don't have any gophers, but i do have little moles. They don.t seem to do much damage, but rather they till and aerate the soil. Monkeygirl, my fatcat girlfriend, kills any of them that get to close to the surface. There's a box turtle that eats any low hanging tomatoes, but ive gotten so many this year that i'm sick of eating tomatoes. He can eat all he wants. There's plenty more.
FF, i'm working on a cooling system that will pass water through an old ac condenser coil off an old Ford pick up truck. There will be a fan behind the coil, cold water going to water my garden will also pass through the coil, lowering the temperature in the house. I noticed that after my water has been running for a while, it gets very cold.
It's sad when "94*F" is a cool down!:celebrate

No Doubt!

Your cooling system must work on evaporation right? I don't think that it would work very well here. We have an average humidity level around 70% and sometimes even higher. :sick

The predicted highs for KC tomorrow are up to 108!!

BTW Tanks ... Gophers ARE edible! :p :gig

It's real humidy here too, FF, so i can relate! My new cooling system is basically geothermal. The coil is just a heat exchanger, and the cold water going to water the garden, provides the cooling effect as it runs through it.

Just lost four hours of writing. This forum has some tech difficulties, or my new computer is effed up. Is there an auto-save word processor program that i can use to prevent this loss of creative writing? My smart phone never forgets anything that i write, unless i jump hoops and hurdles to erase it. So why does my computer do everything it can to hide or delete everything i write? My phone tries to save every text. My computer tries to delete every text. I'd like it the other way around.

Sorry you're having troubles posting. If I'm writing anything past a couple lines, I type it in notepad then copy and paste it to the reply box.

Well, hello, there- good to see you! I saw your picture on some of your other posts and thought I ought to get on over here to see what you've been up to :)

That is a lovely cabbage- and I don't even like cabbage. It looks more like an idealized painting than a real growing plant.

How often do you need to get ice for your icebox? I don't think there is an ice company around here- all we have are those over priced bags of ice at the gas stations for coolers.
