Just lost four hours of writing. This forum has some tech difficulties, or my new computer is effed up. Is there an auto-save word processor program that i can use to prevent this loss of creative writing? My smart phone never forgets anything that i write, unless i jump hoops and hurdles to erase it. So why does my computer do everything it can to hide or delete everything i write? My phone tries to save every text. My computer tries to delete every text. I'd like it the other way around.
Try an old transcriptionist trick....every now and then hit Ctrl + A , Ctrl + C. Work saved. Forum can mess up, internet can go down, but you have your work cut and pasted and unless you computer itself goes down you have it. If you computer is going down a lot, write in a word file first and create a name for your file before you begin typing. Then just Ctrl + S every now and then and keep saving your work, whenever you finish a new paragraph or get a sentence just right, hit Ctrl + S.

Thanks SD! I think i have word pad on here. I'll just do all my writing on there, then move it over to post. I've lost so many long stories that i've written lately, due to my crappy wifi signal, that i'm afraid to waste my time writing longer stories.

Well, hello, there- good to see you! I saw your picture on some of your other posts and thought I ought to get on over here to see what you've been up to :)

That is a lovely cabbage- and I don't even like cabbage. It looks more like an idealized painting than a real growing plant.

How often do you need to get ice for your icebox? I don't think there is an ice company around here- all we have are those over priced bags of ice at the gas stations for coolers.
My mug shot is strange. There's this weird, glowing aura above my shoulders and around my head, like a old Kirlian photograph. I decide to post it, because only my friends are going to recognize who i am.
I cant believe that none of my cabbages have bolted yet. It's been triple digit weather for a month! Weird! It's not a bad photo for a webcam. Just can't believe that i still have cabbage in solid form, this late in the season. I love to eat cabbage steamed, topped with butter and salt.
With this triple digit heat and no A/C, i have to get ice every 2-3 days. In the winter it was more like once a week. There's an ice vending machine (small building) less than a mile up the highway. $1.50 gets me 16 lbs. of ice. It's twice the ice of a regular bag from the quick mart. I saw a little ice maker in a catalog from Heartland America. If i knew how many watts it uses, i might buy it i think i can run it off of solar power. I would be more ss if i made my own ice.

Wish there was a spring or a well with really cold water on your property. Spring houses were probably the easiest (year round) refrigeration before electric.
Storing snow worked pretty well for northerners, but not practical down here.
I'd dig a root cellar. Not quite as cold but they can be used as a storm shelter- just in case...

I actually did start digging a root cellar. I'll get back on that when it cools down. It's just too hot to do much. I did a little bit of weeding out front and picked a couple handfuls of Lima beans, and that was it. Now the mosquitos are out, and i'm up on the screened porch! it feels cooler already. I don't know why, but the heat really seemed bother me more today, than when it was 102*.
A spring would be so nice! There's not many around here.

We quarter our cabbage wrap it in foil with a hunk of butter and some salt and pepper and then on to the grill it goes! Steamed in its own moisture and butter. :drool

There's lots of people here that want to make them. It makes sense that you would want one. No electric needed, unless you want a small light or little fan.
