Hey Dace,

I have been thinking about you. How are the garden boxes going? I hope all is well.

Turkeys should be fine. Not sure whats going to happen next week when my meaties get here and there are turkeys in the brooder. :idunno

If I get a new Tom from this batch the big guy will definitely go in the roasting pan. :somad

actually you are doing GREAT...and yes you could have put them in your bra! ha!

um.... just keep them warm at least 95* (i believe)... they require a little more warmth than chicks. show them how to get a sip (a little sugar water is good for a day or two) and make sure they have chick feed. if they havent figured out how to eat, kinda peck at it with your finger by tap-tap-tapping it. start by putting the feed on the floor so they dont have to look for it - after a couple days put it in a feeder or small dish.

and yep thats what they do - and make little peeping noises. if they move from peeping to screaming - you'll hear a tone change to that "distress" tone that all animals have - make sure they are warm enough. they should be warm enough NOT to sleep in a heap but should kinda sprawl out on the floor.

and make sure they stay dry.

you're doing a great job!

and yes - toms do that. we keep our setting hens separate from the toms at all costs. they can also attack the mommas who will not leave their nests.

sorry about the losses but i think you've got the best ones! they look really good!

great work!
ps if any of them seem a little droopy whip open your shirt and stuff them in your bra for a warm up. if its easier tuck your shirt up into your bra to make a little "pouch" for them. they will snuggle in and go to sleep. its adorable - they'll hear your heartbeat and be in heaven.

I can't imagine putting a turkey in my bra (wouldn't have much to snuggle with anyway :p) but they are so stinkin' cute!

Keep the heat source in one corner. That way the peeps can move closer if they are cold or farther away if they get too hot.

Don't blame the old man too much... he is quite typical for adult males. :/ If you have a hard time getting them to start eating you can sprinkle a bit of millet on top of the food. It gives them something to peck at and gets them eating better. Good luck! :)

Since you are getting meaties I would probably chance just putting them in together. The last batch I raised I had turkeys about a week older in the same brooder as my meaties and they seemed to do fine. Meaties are more interested in the food bowl than they are the poults and a week of grow time extra helps the little turkeys when it comes time to deal with fat meaty chicks. ;)

Hi Gina :)

All is well here. Garden boxes are going well far. I have added in several large pots to accommodate tomatoes as well.

I have 5 or 6 tomatoes and 3 cherry toms as well as onions, lemon cukes, slicing cukes, a couple serranos, one sweet bell, an eggplant, and I planted some beets, radish and carrots. I bought some beans and now need to figure out where to put them :/

It feels so good to have a garden, even if it is a mini one!

How is the job going fir your hubby? I hope everything is working well :hugs

yeah, this will prob be better than the other way :) we brought home meaties to our week old hammies  the meaties lost most of their feathers. 9 hammies against five meaties is apparantly not good odds
:woot on the babies though!
