Yay for kids back in school! I am just about to go wake mine up :clap

I don't mind the big kids being home, but Hubby was out of town and I just spent 5 days as the primary source of entertainment for an 8 yr old :th

I am ready for SILENCE! Dang that girl can talk.

Another big yay for the warm weather headed our way.... 80 degrees is my favorite!

Happy Monday, enjoy your peace and quiet! :woot

How are the meaties getting along?

I usually try to have mine "toughened up" to cool weather to get them out into a closed up coop at about the three week line. Then start letting them out on warm days soon after that. You will have to watch close at first since they are exceedingly dumb.

I don't put them in a house inside the tractor....as long as they can get into one corner out of the rain (which they may or may not do anyway cause they are kinda stupid when it comes to common sense stuff that "normal" chickens would do).

I don't put mine in the tractor outside until the 3 week mark either...they are pretty much feathered out by then and if they get a little wet it is not that big of a deal.

We keep the light on them until about 3-4 weeks depending on the outside temps. Once they go outside only put the light on them at night and then peek out at them to see if they are even under it and if they aren't for 2-3 nights in a row then cut it off completely. They'll tell you when they don't need it anymore.

Take a pic so we can see how ugly the little buggers are getting!

Ok pics are on my list of things to do today.

They are all getting along fine. Just big I am afraid my 2 x 4 ft brooder is just not made for meat birds. I was hoping to boot them out and just keep the turkeys inside.

I :love my turkeys.

At 9 days old I imagine by this weekend they will be huge.

The weather here is wonderful. I have put 4 wk old chicks out into a non heated house before. But never this young, with a light, in an open air tractor.

Not really sure what to do.

You may just want to make sure they have 3 sides to stay out of the wind and rain, they really don't need any sort of "house" if they have a lamp they will huddle together to keep warm. I kept my first batch of meaties on the front porch in a kiddie pool with hardwire cloth around it from day one with only a lamp and my lab for security and we lost 1 from piling. They never had an enclosed house. This is them at 2 weeks old

Yeah, that's what I thought. My turkey hut is a secure place. So I think with heat and some sort of enclosure to get them off the ground they would be ok. Those birds would never fit in my brooder. :(

I really love turkeys as well. Nothing like the "stupid as a turkey" stories that you hear all of the time. Such sweet personalities!

I like your trouble maker just fine!!
