Great shots :)

If you have ants on your corn, they are likely eating aphids--if you can get rid of the aphids, the ants will leave too. Ants don't bother corn but aphids will damage the plants.

Sorry I'm no help on getting rid of aphids though, I don't use any sprays or whatever. The only time I ever had aphids they stripped down a big dill plant literally as I watched and once I was sure they weren't on anything else I cut the plant and bagged it up for the garbage--never had any more problems.
Put a 1/4 to 1/2 cup of dawn dish soap per gallon of water in a pump up sprayer. Soak the plants completely. Wait 5 min. All ants aphids, squash-bugs, or other bugs with an exoskeleton will be dead. Hose off plants completely with clean water. I have been using this organic gardening trick for 17 years. It always works.
The shots of your place are amazing! I would love to live on a hill like that. How old is your house?

Thanks to you both.

SunSaver do you think I could do the same thing with a hand held squirt bottle and a ton of patience?? I have a few Hudson sprayers but most have been used for poisson in the past. I wouldn't want to risk it.

As for the age of the house. We finished building in 2002. We bought the property, 3 acres and there was a little Ca bungalow grove type house on the top of the hill. No records of any kind and in kinda bad shape. It was built in the late 20's and added on to in the 30's. The plumbing was shot and the electrical was those porcelain balls and wires. We sold 1 acre to help pay to build the new place. We lived in a 30 ft camper on the property with a Rottie and a 1yo son. We went big and built a new place in the same spot. If I had to do it again I would do things much differently. But you live and learn. I still have my land, view and dreams. The house is just hard to keep up with. :hu

The view is really nice. It's panoramic except for the older house you can see up behind my corn. We have a peak of the ocean on clear winter days. Sometimes I can even see Santa Catalina Island. My front door faces east and I love to watch the sun rise. Garden, yard and patio face south.

Yes I know solar would be great here. We have some history with solar. A long story best saved for another day.

I"ve used a hand held sprayer, and my hand got tired pretty quick, but it worked. You have to do a little bit, hose it off, do a little more. I got a cheap pump sprayer for $10 at wally world.

You know I was thinking. I have a sprayer I use for copper on my fruit trees. It kinda works like a siphon and you can adjust it. The hose hooks to it and as it sprays it adds whatever is in the bucket. Maybe I can put some soapy water in the bucket and the hose will dilute as it applies. But then I still have to rinse the stalks right???

Monday Aug 22

We over slept. :barnie

The alarm was supposed to go off at 3:15. We woke to when dh father called from the driveway at 4am.
:he

I hope the day gets better.

DS Jr high starts late on Monday. Alternative to early Wed. His first class is at 9:55. Crazy.

I have a tomato pick up scheduled. Hopefully more than 1 box.

We started building the new shelves in the canning pantry yesterday. Using OSB. Not my first choice but the wood has been in my attic for years since we built our house. So it was free. I moved the buckets out. Its looking good.

I really need to make some laundry soap. I bought a tiny bottle of store bought to hold me over and its almost gone. First time I had to buy soap in 2 years.

Just normal Monday stuff.

Birds, laundry, house,garden.

Have a good day.

I refuse to leave the house today. Well unless it catches fire or something. I took my son to school yesterday and then went on errands. From the farm stand for my tomatoes to home depot and the grocery. With a few other things mixed in.

So today I am making sauce, working in the garden and just plain catching up.

I ordered a stainless pot the other day. I went with a 24quart canning pot. It comes with a rack and a set of canning tools. I figured those items will come in handy as well. I ordered through Emergency Essentials. I hope it shows up today.

Well that's about it.

Just rolling along.

I'm attempting to stay home today too. I even persuaded my mom to pick up milk for me! We were all over yesterday doing errands. I do have to bring DS to the orthodontist this afternoon though. But that's IT!

I understand what you mean about leaving the house. I ran around most of the day yesterday and accomplished nothing. I have been running this morning as well but thanks to you, Tanks my dear, I am stocked up on GF pizza crust mix, brownie mix, cornbread mix and GF rolled oats!
All from Big Lots! :weee :weee
A thousand thanks - you saved me a hundred dollars!! :woot

:D

That's wonderful FF. Isn't it amazing. My health food store charges an arm and a leg for Bob's. I am stoked to find it so cheap. I did buy GF quick oats when I prefer whole but who cares. I will use them in cookies for the kids or something.

Hen, enjoy your day!!

So here's my list so far. 9:48am

got dh of to work with breakfast and lunch.
Girls off to school breakfast and lunch
son driven to school breakfast and lunch.
Laundry moved through.
bed made, mine. The kids are responsible for their own.
Animals out and fed.
Dehydrator humming with peppers.
A huge pot of sauce simmering on the stove.
Canning jars in the dishwasher.

I am heading out to pick the garden. I never did it yesterday. Get this my dh comes in asking what is up. He says my peppers are shriveling. I told him I haven't picked yet but thanks for noticing. :barnie

I might need to pull out a second dehydrator. I have a counter full of pears to process. Lots more laundry. Still have not made my laundry soap.

Geesh... I better get off the computer. Just sat down to eat a scrambled egg. Off I go.
