Morning Gina :frow

After reading about Henrietta23's diagnosis I was talking to DH about his constant reflux....and wondering about the connection to gluten. He *thinks* he is ready to do an elimination, but the reality is that it will be harder than he suspects!

Just wondering how your kiddos are doing and if you got them tested or did the elim. diet?
I would recommend the test - it is a simple blood draw, but you have to be currently consuming the gluten when the sample is taken. The elimination is a LOT harder. Reflux was my main symptom before I was diagnosed and I wouldn't have even considered it except for my D2 was diagnosed Celiac during testing prior to removing her gall bladder. Since it is hereditary I decided to check it out.

I would try with the County Health Department. If they won't do it then the elimination is probably your only choice.

The problem is if YOU ARE Gluten intolerant and the elimination works you usually have strong reactions when even you eat gluten the next time. I personally throw up if I get any gluten. Since I did the elimination method myself I now have no DOCUMENTED proof that I am Celiac. The blood test will not work for me now since I can't consume gluten for a long enough time to make the test even work. If you feel better and stay gluten free this may not be a problem. I have always worried that I might end up in a hospital or someplace that would not believe I cannot eat gluten or some other instance where I need documentation. Maybe I am just crazy. :/

Hmmm, ok ,maybe blood is worth looking into. I wonder what exactly you have tested? My 16 yr old came back negative for celiacs years ago but I am certain she has sensitivities.

Sorry Dace I have been a bit preoccupied. I did not read what is up with Henrietta23.. Gluten and dairy allergies???

Things have been a bit out of whack around here. Dh is interviewing for a new job. :fl We have gotten into some heated debates over our options. Stay, go, sell, rent. His latest idea involves moving to his deceased Grandmothers farm in Atascadero, Ca. Its up near San Luis Obispo. Would be a great idea except his fathers 5 siblings are fighting over the property. Some want to sell one still lives there and then there is his dad. We would be buying out an aunt and living in her old place. :he Why in the name of Anyone would I ever want to get involved in that mess? After an hour of tears, yelling and discussing our options I simply explained to him that we would not have enough money after paying off our debt to buy his aunts 33%. Done and over with I hope.

He is refusing to leave Ca. So I am sure you understand my farm idea is off the table for now.

So we have decided that he needs to get another job and we need to do what we can to stay where we are.

On the health front. My son has been diagnosed with ADD. We started a Concerta prescription last week. I was always the last one to ever want to use medications, but I have heard the science side of it and I am trying to be responsible. It is amazing the difference. We have 3 out of 7 cousins who have been diagnosed. Did you know it's hereditary? Anyways, sil had her husband take her sons meds. Just to try them out. He normally drinks several Pepsi's a day to keep his focus. He said it is amazing the difference. They both agree it is the best thing for their son. My dh hearing this and advice of others is on board as well. Maybe I should have him take some. :D

The gluten thing is on the back burner for now. I have been trying to eliminate some of the carbs in our diets. Adding in the 1000's of milligrams of fish oil and vitamins. The kids both came back negative but I had plans to see a specialist to confirm. That appointment is in April. Who knows where we will be in April. So not a priority.

I did buy some of the Bob's gluten free flour from Cost co. I have substituted it in a couple recipes with success. I just need to be more consistent.

Well, anyways. I hope things are ok for you guys. I have not really been typing much. It's kinda hard to concentrate when I am not sleeping. I also have a sore throat and a headache. I am sure it is stress induced.

I am still clearing clutter and packing extra stuff, sorting toys, books etc. Not very positive thinking but it makes me feel like I am getting something done.

Garden is coming along. I can't wait for the warm weather this weekend. I am going to weed my hill till the cows come home. Get some sun on my shoulders and get that dirt manicure all the gals around here love so much. ;)

Maybe I'll get some spring pics to post.

Well I hope I have not bored you too much. If your up this way ever let me know.

Well it sounds like you are doing your best to make it all work.

I know it is so hard when spouses are not on the same page. I love mine to pieces, but I do wish he was on board with more of my SS dreams.

Good to hear that meds are working! I know how hard it is to completely eliminate all offending foods....that is why I am leaning towards blood work... just not sure what to have checked!

DH is up in north county working on a potential project :fl sounds promising, but you just never know. Can't count your chickens till the fat lady sings right? :gig

Hope you feel better!

Lab tests for celiac

Some are gluten intolerant like my D2. She has to carry an epipen! Gluten for her is life threatening.

Some are gluten sensitive more like me. It just makes me sick.

Some can eat gluten but are allergic to wheat or another grain for different reasons than the gluten.
