hey Saucy Dace good to hear from you!! That's one good thing about staying home all the time, I am here to tend my garden.
I have been rising before dawn with dh. Once the sun is up I go out with th dog, pick veggies pull weeds, then water.
With this heat I am watering at least twice a day. You shouldn't have any problems getting some stuff started in august. Sept. will be the perfect for peas, lettuce, broccoli and all those other coll season things. I look forward to figuring out the fall garden this year.
Yes I actually printed that one!! I just need to figure out when to pick it. I am thinking I need to wait until the vine dies off like the spaghetti squash. I picked one early just to see and it looked very underdeveloped inside. Not that I have ever seen one before but it just did.
All I can think about is one more day, says the weatherman. One more day. We can't get the house below 75 at nite, so its hot hot hot. My veggies wilt during the day, but are perked up the next morning, even with watering every day.
Well we are ok in the heat. I have not used the AC at all. Not even the fan thingy. It was 88 inside yesterday and that's keeping everything closed until it starts to cool off. I have covered porch on all sides of the house. Well almost. In the early am it's nice but as the sun comes up the east side is hot then 1 to 3pm cooks the west side of the house. After that I get ocean breeze so we open up everything to cool off. But like Murphy's the house doesn't get below 75 at night.
How are you doing Dace? Staying cool I hope.
We spent today at SIL pool for FIL birthday. I had promised my MIL some yellow squash so just before we left I picked 3 gr zucc, 2 yellow squash, a bunch of gr beans, 3 gr peppers and some radish. I piled them in a basket and gave them as his gift. The pool was nice. Had a couple drinks and the kids swam to their hearts content.
On a happy note the company my dh got a job with restructured. Now instead of being one of many project managers he is going to be Senior construction project manager. which means he will be in charge of all of them. Not sure if I like it. He will have more to do, longer days. Not sure how much more pay yet. We will see how it turns out.
We worked on the gravel I had delivered. I am a bit short but will spread it out a bit thinner and make it work.
We went to the Honda dealer today kinda complained a bit about the transmission thing. My car has a warranty extension due to faulty trans issues. So really a 10 year old van with 79 thousand miles should not need a new trans. So the guy said if he could keep it until Mon he would contact the Honda Corporation and see what he could do for me.
Maybe they will feel guilty and fix my car. Wouldn't that be nice.
Well things are a bit crazy around here. I made a phone call on Friday to my mortgage lender about a re fi at a great rate. We were approved and locked in but they need to appraise my house. I tried to talk the guy into just and exterior drive by, he says " we just need to make sure there are no holes in your walls or anything". My dh just cut a section out of the drywall in our bathroom. The shower door leaked and the wall got wet. I have been bugging him to fix it. I guess timing is everything. So I have been scrambling to declutter, clean up, shampoo my carpets etc. They always say it's the house there looking at but they have to take interior pics and that weirds me out.
I have been working in the garden this week. Got my first cuc's off the vine. I know there late but everything is this year for me. I pulled all my potatoes last week so that freed up a nice 4 x 4 ft square. I spent the other day making nice neat little rows of carrots, radish, and lettuce. Only to go out the next day to find the chickens scratched the surface up and mixed it all together.
Speaking of chickens, I lost 5 the other day. I locked them all up at night. But, My lovely dog went out after me. No he didn't eat them. He lifted the latch on the gate. Well not a problem, he couldn't get in. I also use a rope latch as second security. The problems was 5 of my new laying buff oprs came out. Those birds were not very smart. I guess around 11pm the coyotes had a nice meal. Piles of feathers all over the place. I talked to my neighbor the next day, I wanted to let her know because she just got two new kittens. She says "oh, yeah I heard the chickens, and the coyotes last night". Uhhh do you think you could have called me? Then my old German neighbor called and literally told my ds that the coyotes came at 11:03, ok you could have phoned. Jeesh people what's the deal?
My car is still at the Honda dealer. I guess no news is good news?? Well, probably not in this case. I am dragging my feet in calling because I know I will probably need to just pick it up.
I did some canning yesterday. A few quarts of peaches. Not really to happy about the way they turned out. I had a ton of float and they got a bit mushy. I did a hot pack.. I think next time I will cold pack and just process the extra 5 min. Seems like the lesser of two evils.
Well got to get moving. Lots to do today. I need to finish the carpets, get the porch scrubbed, find the paint for my bathroom wall, oh and about 10 other things as well.
