Super Self-Sufficient
Thanks guys.
Pam, having that many kids in one family is kinda good and bad. First off the 4, 1/2 brothers grew up in Caracas Venezuela so I did not know them until I was much older. I am the 12th out of the 13 so many were young adults and moving out before I knew it. We kinda have 3 generations. The older ones are all very close in age. I think my mom had the first 8 in 11 years. Then the middle few are a bit more spread out. My sister just above me is 4 years older and my younger sister is 6 years my junior. Back to the good and bad. We grew up in suburbia, having a big family was not normal. My dad left when I was seven. So we were always struggling. So this leads to the good part. I am VERY self reliant, I can manage with just about anything on my own. Sometimes I think life would have been easier if we lived in the country or on a farm.. We could have at least grown our own food and had animals.
Farm, that Countryside reunion was just last year right? I remember reading about it. I would have loved to go. Maybe next time.
So yesterday I drew out a picture of the chicken tractor I want to build. Not sure if it's to late in the season to get started.
Today is the Fall Festival for my kids school. I volunteered to help at the 5th grade BBQ for my sons class. So that means DH will have to supervise. Which translates into the kids running wild and going crazy. The only problem is it's raining here. That's not good. These functions have turned into a total greed fest. The school is constantly asking for money, items and help. Then they raised the cost this year. 10 bucks per kid to do the games and haunted houses. Then the good stuff, face painting etc cost several tickets at 50 cents each. I have already told my kids we go for the 10 dollar deal only. I know how fast they can burn through those tickets. Then I volunteered to make baked goods for the cake walk. I made these to die for chocolate fudge brownie sandwiches. Basically huge cookies with frosting in the middle. I get this e mail last night saying they wanted 10 cookies per plate. hello, mine are done, wrapped and labeled in the fridge. 5 sandwiches per container. If they make a fuss I am going to give them to the kids and say "here go share these with your friends". And that's that.
So I guess we are not going to be working on the fence today. I was complaining about only getting 2 eggs yesterday. So my dh went down about 1 1/2 hours before sun set and let the hens out. I am sure the neighbor was not happy. But I don't think they could do that much damage in an hour.
Last week I made somewhere near 12 diaper bags. Not to bad once I got all the pieces paired up, prepped and piled. Then I had my sil take everything else home. She must have had straps and pockets for 100 bags but only the bodies for 15. So it was a bit confusing and overwhelming. Once everything was simplified it went really quick. They are turning out nicely if I say so myself.
No sewing yesterday I had to do some grocery shopping.
I did however find a new trick at the grocery. My local Kroger has a system where the butcher guy walks down the meat aisle and puts the big red stickers on stuff they need to get sold. I imagine it's close to it's sell date. Anyways, I have been going early and buying the mark downs and stocking the freezer very nicely. Yesterday I got there a bit early and wandered the store while he finished his job. Then I followed the poor guy and basically picked and chose from what he tagged. I was not the only one there to do the same thing. So I don't think I am the only crazy lady stalking the butcher. Last time I went I got about 10, 1 lb packages of bacon for 50 cents each. And one 3lb pack of ends nde pieces for $1. I love finding bargains.
Well speaking of bacon I need to feed the family some breakfast.
Have a great day!!!
