When you get an idea let me know! This is all part of my SS feeding plan. The worms are also (for the protein since I may not get to do wheat). In the summer my hens will be getting just cracked corn and boss (and worms) thrown out for them in the evening because they have six acres at their disposal.
How many are you feeding/planning on feeding? I'm about to go look for some information on ratios of carb to protein...of course I COULD look on the pellet bag but that's no fun

I feed that much every 4 days seems like for my 18 chickens and 4 ducks. But in the summer they dont eat any commercial feeds, not because its not there. My Doms, Scovies, and Aussies are better foragers than my last group to.

My Dels and scovies are great foragers, but the turkeys...eat like a horse! I am not sure how many I have...probably 30ish birds still. I had 60 so...my weights may be off a bit. I know I was feeding a lot!

Right now 18 chickens and 4 ducks. But Im expanding to 25 or 27 chickens and 4 ducks maybe 5 ducks. Im not to worried about my carb to protein ratios, because I have great forage, they rake leaves in the flower garden. Eat bugs in the orchards then eat all food scraps thrown out.

I foud out with my Doms where they foraged from any early age (6 weeks) they do better with it, I think. My next batch of layer chicks Im going to feed differently. Cracked grains instead of mash. Id like to introduce them to worms and sprouts also. Speaking of I need to reseed a tray when I had it out on the porch I think the cold got to it.

I have the opposite problem, last year a BR hen would poke her head threw the kennel while the dog would eat and she would snag a piece of meat.

I have thought about them to but they lack my homesteading bird qualities (size, broodiness, hardiness, etc.) Plus they are flighty and crazy, my cousin had some and they were retarded.

I just want their eggs, and I am keeping my homestead hens too. I sell a lot of those eggs for hatching...... AND hatch a lot for selling
