Yeah I am definitely doing corn and boss. Thats a big percentage of what I feed.
How much corn you planting per chicken? Are you going to try for enough for the year? I'm researching building a corn crib for storage for mine.

Well Im not to sure. I know Im planting a pound of seed, thats atleast enough for ten 45 ft. rows. Im hoping to be able to supply corn from the garden in the Fall, Winter, and Spring. HOPEFULLY summer. For my storage Im thinking about 5 or 6 hampers in the basement.

I probably would be if not for the neighbors offering space. I think they just don't want to mow any more than they have to

I need to figure how much it would take to feed mine before I know how much to plant...plus I'll be adding chickens for meat that I will have to feed as well. They won't need much corn during the summer, they have plenty of forage and don't go through much rations, so that will save me some too. Still thinking on this one ;)

When you get an idea let me know! This is all part of my SS feeding plan. The worms are also (for the protein since I may not get to do wheat). In the summer my hens will be getting just cracked corn and boss (and worms) thrown out for them in the evening because they have six acres at their disposal.

I feed roughly 6 pounds of feed per day to my turkeys, chickens, and ducks....but I have to wrap my head around the protein versus carbs part of mixing my own too. I am going whole grain, and not going to try to grind any of it at this point..then I want worms too....LOTS of planning yet to do!

My hens seem to like their whole grains better than the crumble/pellet junk.
