I'm thinking of getting some leghorns...better feed ratio for layers, and it isn't like you can't still eat them. :hu
I have thought about them to but they lack my homesteading bird qualities (size, broodiness, hardiness, etc.) Plus they are flighty and crazy, my cousin had some and they were retarded.
I just want their eggs, and I am keeping my homestead hens too. I sell a lot of those eggs for hatching...... AND hatch a lot for selling

Are you gonna keep your Dellies?

I only have the one flock, so Im breeding for a goal.

Yeah Dellie's and Muscovy's stay and turkeys....

I'm also planning to add a hog and some milk goats to the little farm, so I have to downsize my flocks a bit anyway. Leghorns are smaller chickens and will go well with the Del's I think.

You will still be able to keep your purebred dels by having white eggs from your leghorns. Meat rabbit time is coming soon. I have 3 in the cage and a litter on the way. I cant sell them and feed is to high to keep them up unless they have a food purpose. So its fastly approaching.

We'll need help keepin' the younin' BB under control, ppleeaaase join us, I can use another Buckeye..

My intent for this was for everyone to set an individual goal, work towards it in public view. BB is a youngin' with lots of space and time on his hands. Wannabe has half the state of TN she can call in to help. My, I'm just a guy with an IT job, wife, and a family, and have the need to get some motivation to have a better garden this summer.

Well I have a "fill the larder" goal for a section of real estate right outside my front door. If it is as simple as that, maybe I should join too.

I really wanted to grow a lot of pumpkins and sunflowers too. Lots. Like a WHOLE lot. But I have no idea how much yield I should have or how to compute that? Maybe I'll just watch y'all and get inspired....

Absolutely, please do jump in.

One things I want to work for myself is setting realistic expectations.
