On the SS, plants are all doing great except for my lettuce. It has just withered away and is quite pitiful looking. I think I am going to chunk them and try again with some greenhouse starts. We planted some spinach, india mustard, and spinach mustard this weekend. Next weekend we will finally plant our potatoes and red onions, leaving only cukes, acorn and yellow squash, and green beans to go. I am thinking of making some rainbarrels soon to water the garden with. T
Tommy, You may have already thought of this, but if not...

the lettuce that has sprouted but doing pitifully, you can give to the flock - they'll love them.

Wow, been awhile since I have posted anything! We have been pretty busy around here, with the end of school and the beginning of the growing season. My boy and I have two rows of six potatoe plants, several of which are over a foot tall. We have our cabbages, broccoli, collards, a couple of chili pepper plants, a couple of tomatoes, and a half a whiskey barrel full of leaf lettuce.
Today I made a nest box set up for our chickens using wafer board scraps from work. I used a bunch of scrap right angle trim from work to piece it all together, with screws salvaged from work also. Total cost was $0.00! Our 8 pullets started laying last week, and we are getting about half a dozen eggs a day. One, named Floppy Comb(for obvious reasons)lays a double yolker every time! I would post pics, but the kids broke our camera, so no pics for a minute.
I have been salvaging a lot of materiel from work lately. We have(I should say HAD) a bunch of 5 foot skids that are 2x3. I have saved about 50 so far. Also get a bunch of 5/8 and 3/4 wafer board scraps which can be pieced together for various projects. I also got the owner to give me an old frame that was for an awning, one of those that are covered with cloth and form a quarter circle hanging over a door. When the 2 halves are turned together, they make a 7 foot tall half circle, which I think will make an awesome greenhouse when covered with those sheets of transparent corragated plastic. I will have to get pics, my description sucks lol.
I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the summer. I have been keeping up with a lot of the journals and other postings. Talk to ya'll soon.

Hey Tommy,
Good to hear from you. I can totally visualize your green house. How exciting. Glad to hear your garden is in. Playing in the dirt will keep the kidos busy. Oh, and how about those fresh eggs? Nothing like them!!! :)

Sounds like you have been busy. I seem to have a little more time now that planting is done. Now it is wait (well wait except for weeding and watching).

Love the green house idea you have. Hope you get that camera fixed soon so we can see some pics of that when its done.

I think your dog is related to mine. They could pass for brothers. Well, except your dog doesn't look fat like mine and my pup has a bit of heeler in him. His name is Tyson. I call him my "Bubba" dog and he's one of those kind of dogs that all "good 'ole boys" should have.

I couldn't find any side shot pics but this should give you a rough idea.

I got Shredder as a pound puppy back in 99. He is half Basset, half German Shepard. He stands about 14-15 inches at the shoulder, is about 3 and a half to 4 foot long, and weighs about 85 pounds right now. Think full size big dog with basset legs...or a fur covered torpedo lol!!! That mutt and me have been through a lot...he's my good friend.
