Geese are an unusually hardy animal. If it is showing illness I would probably count on culling it.

What color is the goose's stool? Is there any swelling around the head or face?

I know I just didn't want to have to cull it :( - but I don't see any improvement. no swelling - stool that I see in the crate is dark.

hey TT

sorry about your goose... there are two folks i'd send you to... one is Goosedragon who you should directly PM on byc... and the other is ThreeHorses - check out her personal page also on byc. she has a link to, i believe, the Princeton Vet college that has an online diagnose tool....

good luck. and wish i had something to offer. do you know if the goose was injured when your other birds were attacked?

Thanks OFG - I'll try them. Nope none of the ducks/geese were bothered when my hens were killed. It was fine that morning when I went out and then that afternoon it was sick.

Some pics of goings on around here.

I did end up culling the goose :( didnt get any worse but didnt get any better. Couldn't find anyone who knew what was going on :hu

The water moccasin we found under the porch a few days after the oak snake in the rabbit pen:

The lone guinea I hatched out scared the crap out of me a few times when I walked by the brooder because it would be laying like this:

I put up some fence around the coop area so that I could let the ducks & geese out to range. Their pen looks like pigs live in it they are messy enough and then we got rain and the pen hasnt been able to dry out. They werent real sure about the door being open ( I did end up cutting the board across the bottom of the door so that they could walk out instead of climb)

But it didnt take them long

Got sweet corn and beans growing like crazy. Tomatoes arent doing as well this year not sure why. Oh I made a compost area :ya had to enclose it to keep the dogs out of it. Will get pics of it uploaded soon. I made it out of a couple of the picket fence sections I have.

Same ol same ol around here. Go to work, come home take care of kids and critters :D Wish I could figure out how to work less and spend more time takin care of kids and critters. Maybe one day I'll be able to do that, but right now it isn't feasible.

Everyone has so much going on - tis the season I guess :D

The critters are all doing well - I think I have 3 pair of ducks which is pretty good since it was hatchery choice. I don't know how to tell on the geese - need to reserch that. The one guinea that I had hatched literally "flew the coop" - he found a spot big enough to get out and I haven't seen him since :( I found a local lady who had keets and got some from her.

Found an add on CL a lady was getting out of rabbit breeding. I got a bred doe who is due with in a couple of days and a buck. :weee The doe has grey on her ears and nose so I suspect she may have more californian than New Zealand in her, but that should be fine. This will be her 3rd litter and she had 9 the first 2 times.

My big light brahma rooster that used to be mean is now being beat up by his son - he hides behind me when I go into the run to feed them! He is living in the nest boxes and smashing eggs when he jumps in :barnie !! I have an empty pen so I am going to move him and a couple of hens into it.

So today's projects are - move the rabbit pen I built out next to the coops and move the new doe and buck into it. Add some wire and tin to the small pen out there and then move the guineas into the smaller pen. Move the light brahma rooster and a couple hens to the empty pen. By then we'll be soaked with sweat and tired :D

It is HOT here upper 90's with the heat index 105 or higher most days! Makes me not want to go outside at all.

We are going on vacation the 4th of August and I can't wait - we are headed up to West Virginia - my Mom's family is there and I'm sure the weather is cooler :ya We are all counting the days!

The first part of August - We (me, dh, our 3 ds, my mom, my brother and his 2 dds, and my cousin) went to West Virginia - Terra Alta, Morgantown, Kingwoood (also over into Oakland, Maryland) and it was absolutely beautiful :love ! ! If I could get used to driving in the mountains I believe I could move there! It was great to see family and places I hadn't seen in years - my DH and the kids had never been there or met some of the family. It felt like home.
This was the house we rented at Alpine Lake:

ETA . . my ducks have started to lay :D
