I love it when we leave our bedroom windows open....we have lots of frogs and I just love listening to them sing me to sleep :)

Right now it is too cold (for me) another month or so and we will leave them open.

Go get those skunks!

And why is it, when you're driving around and someone says, "Shewwwww, I smell a skunk" - you always take a big breath? :sick

there's a big moon rising, a bear in the yard, my cat is snoring, and I'm wide awake. No surprise there, been sick with the flu for days and sleeping around the clock. Barely make it out for chicken chores, and the cats are lucky they are fed.

Me, in the past 5 days I've had less than half a sleeve of soda crackers and thats it. Nothing like being sick to make you realize how fortunate you are mot of the time!

Garden looks like hell. At least this year, the tomatoes are coming on strong. Had a great pea crop, and although the vines are about done, I'm still getting a few peas last time I looked, which would be about 5 days ago :).

Been a troublesome summer so far.

good news is, I finally managed to varmit proof the front porch - so no more woodchucks or skunks.

Reading everyone's posts has been the best thing - enjoy all the different perspectives .

Sorry to hear you are so under the weather. 5 days is a long time to be sick. Hopefully the bug has run it's course and you will be on the mend.

I wouldn't worry about the garden it will still be there when your feeling better.

Now the bear in the yard worries me a bit. :hide

Take care.

thanks, Gina.

I'm trying hard to keep this bear from turning into a nuisance bear - but a nuisance definitely is what he/she is.

I've changed the way I feed birds so there is little to none debris/seeds on the grounds, and I bring the feeders in every darn evening. But the bear just swats down the pole anyway, out of spite I suppose.

He is such a frequent visitor that there is a definite path through the meadow to my garden/feeder area. Not his fault he is smart enough to look for easy eating. So far, he hasn't shown any interest in the chickens, thank goodness.

meant to say, maybe I need that ornery dog you fess up to having in your tagline - that might help discourage the bear!

hey lala!

sorry you are under the weather. being sick in summer is the pits! hope you perk up soon.

and yeah... the garden.. or should i say, the weeds in my case, will be there when you are better. i finally go out from under The Warden's gaze and did some weeding yesterday. getting things in order made it easier for me to sit around later.

and i didnt sleep a peep last nite either - that moon was something else, huh?

:)

yeah OFG, from your posts I figured we might be sharing the same lovely virus.

loved your descriptions of city friends visiting, why is it so hard to convince people they will want SHOES, not sandals or flipflops?

I must be on the mend, it is 3 oclock and I have been awake since 5 am. I snuck in a little vacumning and visited the chickens a couple of times, and filled the birdbaths - and I walked a bit of the bear path - get a feeling for how big the danged bear is by seeing how beaten that path is. doesn't step lightly, thats for sure.

.I think I may survive although I feel like a rag thats been whipping in the wind on the clothesline.

...why oh why are there so many little spiders in the house? there are webs that form overnight, I swear!

lets see....
26 pints of wild blackberry jam cooling on the counter - whoot!
house cleaned up while jam was processing
was going to haul recyling into town to the drop off site, but I hear the road is washed out, so that's a no-go
got around to having breakfast at noon: fresh eggs, neighbors homemade bread, and of course, blackberry jam - espresso with organic cream to go with.
having what the weather service calls a "torrential downpour", so can't weed or pick beans or tomatoes or zukes ( would do it in the rain, just not with all this lightning
could scrub the floor, or......read a book? nah, think I hear the bed on the screened porch calling my name.....

Lucky, I am 150 miles southeast of you and I can't find enough blackberries to make a single batch of jam. I have scoured this area for 3 years and just can't find a descent pocket of berries. I will have to settle for elderberries and grapes again instead.
