It's remarkable how many of us have dysfunctional families...heck, mine puts the fun in dysfunctional. The only way I've ever survived was distance and God. Distance until my family caught up with me and then I just turned it all over to God. If I hadn't, I'd be crying and stressed out every second over the senseless hatred and vindictiveness of some of my family toward their parents.

Having no control over any of it and being the one in the middle is the most stressful stance of all...powerless to affect the outcome but getting the brunt of both sides is mind-numbingly frustrating and an effort in futility. Calculated to make you feel like you've slid down a banister of razor blades into a vat of alcohol.... :barnie

I feel your pain! :barnie I'll pray for you and your family, WBF....in the end, the only one with control is the good Lord. At least HE knows what to do, huh? :p

Amen Bee! That's what I am doing, turning it over to Him. I can't do anything with these crazy people  They're seriously nuts :p

I fell asleep about 3:45 and just got up while ago. I have nooooo idea why I fell asleep or how in the world I slept curled up in a ball on one cushion of the couch  I just woke up a bit ago in time to milk the goat and fix some dinner and see that Newt has won S.C. primary :D Weird.

I am not gonna be able to sleep tonight now :/ I guess I'll just stay up and read my bible like I usually do.

On another note. I love goat milk!!!!!! It feels so nice to know that we've made another step toward SS with producing our own milk. So that puts us up to some meat(poultry), about half our milk(buy when goats aren't in), eggs, and produce now :D I'm thinking next should be pork or beef, but I am sooo not set up for it yet.

I was thinking about how far we have come in the last few years while I was straining this afternoons milk. There are several meals per week now that are exclusively from our land. While I'm not a "greenie" per se, and don't swallow the whole global warming hype, it does feel good to know we are reducing our need for foreign oil right here at home. It feels like being more of a solution to the problem rather than maintaing our status as purely problem that we were a few years ago :p I still drive a car, and buy things not local, and still use plastics, so I'm not totally independent of the use of oil, but I am making a difference in consumption in my own household, and baby steps is what matters. We are healthier, which I am grateful for, and we are happier, because we can spend more time with family doing things most families don't ever consider an option, and we KNOW where our food comes from, and we're okay with that being a chicken's butt, goat boobies, Bambi, and fluffy little chickies that grow up to be homemade KFC  I like that we're okay with knowing our produce isn't drowned in chemicals to grow, but is grown in poop enriched SOIL instead. It's just impressive to see the contrast from where we were versus where we are, and even where we are going. That's all. Just was thinking and it made me smile with a bit of satisfaction that one person CAN make a difference IF we choose to ;)

Soooooooooooooooooooo........that was random eh?

I remember the first meal we had w/fish we had caught, and food out of our garden. There was a sense of satisfaction that I've never had since.

I don't even want to talk about fishing  I have wasted more time and money doing that this last year than I care to admit :p I do love bringing home a big mess of fish, but haven't had that satisfaction in a while :/ I have been thinking of going fishing the next little bit when there is a nice day to do it.

I can't wait to be able to say to guests, "Everything we are eating tonight, came straight from the yard this morning!" I actually had a dream where I did that!! I hope I feel as great when it really happens, as I did in the dream!

Of course, it may be very entertaining to watch their face when you tell them that, especially if you're having chicken or some other home grown meat.

We went fishing the other day and didn't get a bite, BUT in about 2 months the hybrids will be spawning here and that is a blast! Last year we had to start throwing back because we had our limit for four people and we couldn't fit any more anyway. All of them were at least 2 lbs some close to 5 lbs. Seriously it was an absolute blast!
