It is time......for pig slaughter! He got out the other day, and when I had to get the dog to put him up, he hurt my baby, and severely ticked her off, so he has a little less ear now, and it is time for him to go. Tonight is supposed to be about 40 degrees, so if we get him killed and bled this afternoon, we can hang him overnight and begin the carving early morning tomorrow. I have to get some equipment for the slaughter, but we have decided to do it here ourselves, with the help of the Amish roommate..."we got this!" I'll try to get pics, depends on how deep I am personally in the process whether I will be able to get much in the way of documentation. I just hope everything goes pretty smooth. I'm a little short on patience and tolerance this week :p
Not sure what you are needing in the way of equipment, but if I've got anything you need just give me a holler. Got a cast iron wash-pot for cooking out the cracklin's, pig carving knives, grinder, block and tackle...

Any chance of lots of pics and detailed instructions? I'm half-way contemplating self-butchering our little piggies when the time comes. We've butchered lots of chickens but haven't butchered anything bigger than that in many years.

On the new rehab critter: Is it a squirrel?

My day got shot. The butcher is in jail, so no pics. Looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong story there, and I won't go into detail. It has been a really weird day. REALLY weird. So tomorrow is kinda shot already too because I am skipping my already shot to do list to go 2 hours north of me and pick up 15 pot belly pigs for .......wait for it...... FREE! Wow, right? So, I will have 2 sows, a boar, and 12 piglets by lunchtime tomorrow. I love CL! I did wind up having to offer a bit of cash for them in order to jump to the front of the line for claiming them, but I really WANTED to get them, and I have a partner fronting the cash anyway :D All I gotta do is go pick them up tomorrow ;)

Pinky!!!!! You wanted a baby critter, I got some comin sis!

My life is like living in a persons head who has a severe case of A.D.H.D. I'm bringin crazy back

I have no clue exactly how old they are, but the other sow is pregnant and due within 2 weeks. The piglets aren't supposed to be weaned yet, but he didn't say how old they are exactly.

I had to go back and reread your first sentence! At first I read it as, my DAD got shot! Sorry you had a rough day. I can so relate. :hugs Hope tomorrow is better for you.

What are your plans for the new piggies?

4 hour round trip turned into almost 8 :hu It was further than i thought, too two wrong turns(caught almost immediately) and got them back to Pinson where we stopped to pee and ran into a lady with car trouble. Called my cousin to come tow her home, water pump was NOT going to allow her to ake it the 45 minutes to Selmer without toasting her engine permanently. So we took her home, swung by and paid her tow bill for her, came to my neighbors house who wanted a piglet, got bit by her dog....seriously...the little snot ripped a huge hole in my favorite jeans and a 2 inch gash in my leg :barnie and really upset me and her. I think she thought i would sue  NOT! I do NOT believe in doing that stupid crap over every teeny thing. Anyway, I went and got that cleaned up. I picked out my two little girl piglets, called another cousin to come get some, sold 5 to him, sold one to the neighbor, took the other 4 and the other sow, and boar to my friend in MS, and got M back home in time to help unload, reload mine, and drive home. I just sat down. I still have to unload my sow, and work on a place for the piglets, but i think i will bring the little ladies in for the night, and toss a tarp over the sow for the night and unload her tomorrow. I am slap dab exhausted.

My plans for my two ladies is breeders to a boar from the PB girl I have out there already who is due literally any friggin minute. Then the sow i got today, who is due in 3 weeks, will get given to my MS buddy after I get pick of the litter of the females to pair with the boar from the other unrelated litter. Clear as mud? Then i will have sausage and barbecue walking round on the hoof everywhere out here within a few months :p I'm hungry!
